The JAL Group has prepared various device and facilities so that customers can use our services and aircraft safely and securely.

Customers with walking disabilities

Here we will introduce the device and facilities that you can used at the airport or on the airplane.

About airport wheelchairs

For the size of each wheelchair, please confirm by referencing the illustration of the wheelchair measurements.

*The width and depth is the size of the seat surface, and the height is the size from the floor.

Wooden wheelchairs

Completely non-metallic wheelchairs with excellent cushioning. You can smoothly pass through the metal detector at the security check site.
Also, by taking the handrail, you can get on until your on-board seat with the wheelchair as is.
It is made with white birch and has a warm feeling.

A wheelchair that is available for customers who find it difficult to remain in a sitting position.
While it can be used until your on-board seat, there might be instances when part of the backrest is raised.

About other facilities and device

A wheelchair lift for small aircraft

For small aircraft with built-in steps that cannot use boarding lifts, a specialized lift for passengers with wheelchairs.

A step vehicle with a wheelchair lift

A step vehicle that can go up and down with the wheelchair as is.

*However, depending on the type of airplane, there are instances when it cannot be used.
Assist stretchers

Aircraft boarding chair

For small aircraft that cannot use boarding bridges, this is used when boarding and deplaning.

Step elimination boards

When using a wheelchair, you can move smoothly by placing a board on the step between the entrance of the aircraft and the boarding bridge.

Wheelchair boards

For customers with things like a plaster cast that immobilizes their leg and they cannot bend it, this is used for the purpose of supporting the leg when using a wheelchair, or when sitting in the cabin (during the flight only). If you request to use, please consult with us at the time of the reservation.

A wheelchair that is available to move within the cabin. Please let the cabin crew know when you need to use it.

Seats (movable type armrest)

Stretchers (cot)

For customers who find it difficult to remain in a sitting position, and it is necessary to lie down all the time from the takeoff to the landing, a stretcher (cot) is available.

*We will determine the availability of the stretcher by checking the stock of stretchers, the securing of a seat on the relevant flight, the medical certificate and medical device.

Restrooms that can be used with wheelchairs

The door of the restroom opens wide, it is easy to enter with a wheelchair, and a support handle is attached inside. It can also be used with the door open and the curtain outfitted on the aisle side.

In-flight

Information in braille

We provide the "Aircraft safety card" and "Inflight Service Guide with Braille, Large Print, and Audio Codes" in braille. The "Inflight Service Guide with Braille, Large Print, and Audio Codes" describes our in-flight services including beverages, in-flight meals, and in-flight entertainment such as videos, movies, and in-flight Wi-Fi.
Our cabin attendants will explain each in-flight service, equipment around your seat, and facilities on board including lavatories.

Audio guidance (in-flight entertainment)

The Video Program on domestic flights and Movies and Video Program o International flights provide narration that describes the expressions and movements of the performers.

Sign language interpreting

When making inquiries or doing procedures, you can use the remote sign language interpreting service at the JAL Group call center, JAL Plaza and some counters at Haneda Airport.

Writing boards are available at the face-to-face reservation counter at JAL Plaza (Yurakucho).

Writing boards

Simple writing boards are available at the airport for customers with hearing or speech disabilities.

*Available at all domestic airports and domestic branch counters.

Mirai speakers

At some airports, "Mirai speakers" have been introduced for places where there are many announcements for customers, such as the check-in counter, security check site, boarding gate and wait list counter.

*"Mirai speakers" are speakers where the sound can carry far without being loud, and words or music are delivered clearly.

In-flight

Subtitling guidance (in-flight entertainment)

For movies and videos offered on the in-flight entertainment of international flights, content is available that has subtitling guidance for the dialogue of the performers and sound effects.

In-flight

Child seats for borrowing

To borrow child seats, please reserve them in advance. Since there is a limited number, please reserve as soon as possible.

Auxiliary belt for fastening the upper body

These are used to fasten the upper body to the backrest of the seat. Please be sure to fasten the seatbelt. In principle, these are seats that have a wall in back or are in the last row.

Restrooms that can be used with wheelchairs

The door of the restroom opens wide, it is easy to enter with a wheelchair, and a support handle is attached inside. It can also be used with the door open and the curtain outfitted on the aisle side.

In-flight

Syringes disposal case

Please do not leave used self-injection syringes in cabin such as seat pocket.
Also, do not dispose of them in the trash cans in the cabin restroom, and make sure to take them with you and dispose of them in the prescribed manner.
We prepare syringes disposal case on board. Please contact cabin crew if you need it.

Oxygen bottles for medical use

For a fee, we rent oxygen bottles for medical use. Advance reservations are required.

Customers who use an oxygen bottle

Pillows and Blanket

Blankets and pillows are available according to the customers symptoms and purpose of use.
Reservation in advance is required. (Domestic/international flights: 96 hours prior to departure)

The JAL Priority Guest Center

Household medicine

Medicine such as a medicine to prevent motion sickness and analgesics are available on all JAL Group flights.

*If there is medication that you always use, please bring it with you.

Doctor’s kit

If there is a passenger on-board who is a qualified doctor, under their observation and direction there is a doctor’s kit that can be used with various injections and drugs.

*SAAB aircraft of JAC and HAC, and RAC aircraft of J-AIR are not equipped with this.

Resuscitation kit

This is a kit used for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and has such things as an artificial respirator (Ambu bag), stethoscope, liquid aspirator, blood pressure measuring device, mouth opener, electric blood pressure measuring device and a pulse oximeter.

*RAC flights are not equipped with this.

Automated external defibrillators (AED)

In order to strengthen the paramedic setup in the cabin, they are equipped with automated external defibrillators (AED) and electrocardiogram monitors (ECG).

*SAAB aircraft of JAC and HAC are not equipped with this.

Extension belts

These are belts to extend the seat belts on the seats. These are used with bigger customers and to fasten medical device to the seat. For details, within the inquiry field of "Information and consultations about boarding", please contact the JAL Priority Guest Center.
