To assist with an on-time departure, we ask for your understanding and cooperation with the following.

Important Notice

Make sure to arrive at the airport early during busy travel times, such as holiday periods.

During busy holiday periods the roads near the airport and car parks are very crowded, so we suggest using public transport whenever possible.

Baggage check-in (airport procedure)

Baggage

Please check in your baggage by 30 minutes prior to departure.

For passengers checking in pets

To enable us to take extra special care of your pet, please ensure you arrive at the check-in counter at least 40 minutes prior to departure. Pre-payment of the pet fee will enable the process to be completed more smoothly. (With pre-payment the process will take around 5 minutes, while payment on the day will require around 10 minutes.)

For passengers checking in sports equipment or musical instruments

Due to safety checks and other procedures that need to be performed when checking in sports equipment and music instruments, please ensure you arrive at the check-in counter by the times shown below.

Please pack in advance any surfboards, golf bags, bicycles, swords, firearms, musical instruments, tools, skis, and snowboards. 

If any items are not packed in a case it may take time for them to be packed correctly.

JAL Express Tag Service

At New Chitose, Itami, Fukuoka and Naha airports you can take advantage of the JAL Express Tag service and speed up your check-in process.

New style Self Check In machine and Self Baggage Drop

At Haneda Airport, we are installing new automatic Self Check In machines that can issue bag tags and Self Baggage Drop machines so that passengers can check-in their baggage more smoothly. These machines will be progressively introduced in stages and should be available in all areas by autumn 2020. Additionally, these systems will be expanded to New Chitose, Itami, Fukuoka and Naha airports soon.

Security checkpoint

Please arrive at the security checkpoint in plenty of time.

Important notice

During busy holiday periods please arrive at the security checkpoint as early as possible. Please check the busy periods of each airport below.

If you pass through the security checkpoint less than 20 minutes before departure you will not be able to board your flight.

Additionally, to ensure everybody onboard your flight can get their journey underway on time, please arrive at the boarding gate at least 10 minutes prior to departure.

Security Check

Following guidelines from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport security checks at airports have been tightened.

There are certain types of scissors and knives that are prohibited from being brought onboard. If these items are brought on board a fine of up to JPY500,000 could be applied for breaching aviation law.

If such prohibited items are found you will have the option of either checking them in, or disposing of them in the disposal bins provided.

To ensure a smooth security check process

  • Please remove metal objects (mobile phones, keys etc.), laptop computers, and plastic drink bottles from your hand baggage at the checkpoint.

Please take off shoes that hide your ankles. Slippers are available for you to wear.

Please remove your jacket and place it in the tray.

Please remove electronic devices from your bag and place them in the tray.

Removal all liquids from your bag and place them in the tray.

Boarding

To ensure a smooth boarding process

Please consider using JAL’s Touch & Go service to enjoy a smooth boarding experience. Passengers without checked-in baggage can go directly to the boarding gate.

Inflight safety advice

You are requested to follow the safety instructions below.

  • After boarding, please store your carry-on baggages and take your seat as quickly as you can and fasten your seat belt.
  • Always keep your seat belt fastened even the seat belt sign is turned off.
  • Remain seated until the seat belt sign is turned off after landing.
  • Switch off the electronic devices when it is required by the flight attendants. *1
  • Watch the Safety Video and read the Safety Instructions prior to take-off.
  • Return your seat reclining and table to the original position during take-off or landing.
  • If you need to go to the restroom, please do so before boarding. After the aircraft start moving, please refrain from using the restroom until the seat belt sign goes off.
  • Smoking in the lavatory is strictly prohibited. *2
  • Passengers seated in the emergency exit row are requested to assist in an emergency evacuation.
  • To avoid obstacle in the event of an emergency evacuation, carry-on baggage cannot be placed in front of the emergency exit, at your feet or on your lap during take-off and landing.
  1. Kids Phone by NTT Docomo, Junior Phone by au and Mimamori Series by Softbank must be turned off completely in advance.
  2. Electronic cigarettes cannot be used on board.
