JAL wine selection

JAL First Class passengers can enjoy specially selected wines from around the world. Pair a glass with a fine meal and enjoy a quality moment with us.
JAL has brought onboard OKOSHI Motohiro, who has made his mark far and wide as a wine taster and wine director. Under his advisement, JAL have carefully selected wines that we invite you to pair with your meal and enjoy.

Some selections have received medals in  the world known wine competition such as the International Wine Challenge, and Cellars in the Sky, an in-flight wine award.

Champagne Salon 2013

Only you, JAL's First Class passengers, can enjoy the privilege of savoring the highest quality Champagne "Salon" in the stratosphere. Since its very first vintage released in 1921, Champagne "Salon" has been produced from a white grape varietal, Chardonnay, only in the greatest harvest years in the village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger.

Salon's trademarks are the harmony of highly condensed, yet clear saltiness and acidity, along with a tight, strong body. In its gaiety and long, expansive afternote, Salon offers perennial, unsurpassed quality that has earned the House its eminence.

Champagne Billecart Salmon Cuvée Louis Salmon 2009

Freshness and complexity cohabitate amicably in Cuvée Louis Salmon 2009’s flavor, with stunning minerality, lemon zest and a hint of just baked bread. Delight in the silky bubbles and smooth, elegant texture. Refreshing and lighthearted acidity indigenous to Blanc de Blancs

expands this Champagne’s flavor as you savor the long-lasting afternote.

Coco Farm Winery & 10R Winery Pinot Rose 2021

The "Coco Toaru (Together with Coco)" series represents the wines created by one of Japan's leading winemakers, Bruce Gutlove, showcasing the natural flavors of grapes from Hokkaido.

Raspberry aroma complemented by hints of orange and plum. Delight in this 10R ("To-Aru") dry rosé that offers a gentle richness and a savory, extensive afternote.

Chateau Lagrange 2017

Chateau Lagrange, located in Saint Julien, Bordeaux is a renowned winery even among its prestigious 3rd growth peers. Since 1983, when Suntory joined the ranks of management, its reputation has been further augmented. This claret has a sophisticated aroma that evokes cassis, mulch and licorice. Now at a gorgeous stage in its maturity, you can fully appreciate the flavors of gaiety alongside ripeness. This is a full-bodied Bordeaux, in which a complex afternote, smooth palate and elegant tannins are creating a beautiful harmony.

Japanese Wine Craftspeople

Here is an introduction to a couple of wines made by Japanese overseas.

Chateau Igai Takaha SONO Pinot Noir 2018

This is the flagship wine of Chateau Igai Takaha, a winery named after the owner's family crest. It was made the owner's wife, Miyoko Sugimoto, in mind. SONO is from a nickname for his wife's maiden name, Sonoda.

"SONO's" sumptuous fruitiness and fresh, crisp acidity join to create a juicy, bounteous palate. The well-integrated tannins envelop your tastebuds through to the gorgeous berry afternote.

Japanese Rice Wine (Sake)

Some selections were awarded Gold, Silver medals from the world knowned wine competition, International Wine Challenge "Sake Department".

Japanese Rice Wine (Sake) list

JOKIGEN Junmai Daiginjo "Yukimegami"

JO-KI-GEN (in a good mood) continues to brew sake that highlights the essence (Gen) of high (Jo) quality and joyful (Ki), utilizing the subterranean water of Mount Chokai, the famous peak in Tohoku (north-eastern Japan), carefully selected sake rice, and an optimal combination of koji mold, yeast, and brewing methods developed through their production research. This Junmai Daiginjo reflects the quintessential features of the "YukiMegami (SnowGod-dess)" rice, polished to 35%, offering an elegant and refreshing Ginjo aroma and a beautiful, clear, sweetness. The delicate after note, reminiscent of Wa-san-bon (Japanese traditional raw sugar), lingers on.

Jikon Hakutsuru-Nishiki

Kiyashou was established in 1818 when the founder took over a sake brewery. Although a smallsake producer, Kiyashou has always placed importance on the quality of its sake, blessed by the bountiful eco-climate of the Iga basin and utilizing medium-soft naturalspring water from the Nabari riverbed. This sake is made using “Hakutsuru-Nishiki,” a species of rice preferred for sake brewing developed after 8 yearsof effortby the renowned Hakutsuru Brewery. Hakutsuru-Nishiki rice is distributed to only a very limited number of breweries in Japan for sake production, which elevates its status as a cultsake.This Junmai Daiginjo possesses a complex aroma of white flowers, tropical fruits and herbs, and a juicy sweetness evoking mango and pineapple, along with acidity. Featuring a light-hearted touch on your palate, the condensed Umami expands through your senses. Savor Jikon Hakutsuru-Nishiki’s mariage with your cuisine - an especially amicable mariage with cuisine having mellow Umami. Kanpai!


Shochu list

Gokujo Mori Izo (Moriizo Shuzo / Kagoshima Prefecture)

Shochu is a distilled vodka-like spirit made from a variety of ingredients and is a very popular Japanese drink. This shochu is based on carefully selected sweet potatoes from contract farm and is aged in artificial cave for more than three years in traditional jars. Relish the original gentle scent and smooth taste.

Only available on New York and London routes.

Mori Izo (Moriizo Shuzo / Kagoshima Prefecture)

Shochu is a distilled vodka-like spirit made from a variety of ingredients and is a very popular Japanese drink. Mori Izo is produced from sweet potatoes of the “Koganesengan” variety grown under contract and the product is aged to perfection in traditional stoneware jars. The production volume is very limited and highly sought after and as a result this shochu is very hard to find.

This shochu comes from the city of Usa in Oita Prefecture in northern Kyushu. Its popularity is the result of the combination of traditional techniques with new approaches initiated by the young 5th generation master distiller. The name “Shochuya Kanehachi” isderived from the name of the distillery's founder, Yotsuya Kanehachi.

As an ingredient for shochu, the very hard to handle “Hadaka Mugi (wheat)” is used to bring out the distinctive flavor, with the aroma of the grain adding to the complex taste.

Spirits and liqueurs list


A liqueur that combines fruity awamori made with cherry blossom yeast with brown sugar from Iriomote Island and Yonaguni Island, each with a different character. Enjoy an unprecedented taste with the rich, creamy flavor of Iriomote Island's brown sugar and the bitter lingering accents of Yonaguni Island's brown sugar, added to the rich bodied base spirits of awamori and rum.
