For passengers departing from Los Angeles International Airport:

It is recommended that you arrive at the check-in counter at least three hours before departure time. Presently, there is a long wait for the check-in process, as well as the time it takes for the necessary travel documents to be verified. Additionally, some passengers were unable to board by the boarding deadline due to airport security checkpoint congestion.

 

For passengers connecting from U.S. domestic flights:

It is recommended that you arrive at the boarding gate at least 1 hour prior to departure time to complete check-in. Presently, there is a long wait for the check-in process, as well as the time it takes for the necessary travel documents to be verified.

 

Temporary closure of Self Check-in Machine at Los Angeles International Airport

Japan Airlines has stopped the use of Self Check-in Machines in LAX’s Tom Bradley International Terminal. Please visit Japan Airlines check-in counter to check immigration documents. 

 
Temperature Check Pilot Program for Tom Bradly International Terminal
 
New thermal imaging cameras are being tested in LAX’s Tom Bradley International Terminal, checking passengers for elevated body temperatures in both the departures and arrivals areas. Just follow the signs keeping appropriate physical distance and your face covering on (but remove your hat). Japan is an eligible country under the United States Visa Waiver Program (VWP).
Japanese passport holders are permitted to enter the country without a visa provided that the duration of stay is up to 90 days, and the purpose of travel is tourism or business. (However, an ESTA application must be made beforehand.)

Depending on the purpose of visit (study, work, etc.), a visa or additional documentation may be required. Please contact the US Embassy for further information.
(Example: A visa and supplementary documentation (I-20) are required if the purpose of the visit is study.)
US permanent residents and conditional permanent residents must show their permanent resident or conditional permanent resident cards (Green Card/I-551).

  • *Please note: If you are traveling after April 1, 2016 with ESTA on the Visa Waiver Program, it is essential that you are in possession of an IC passport. If you do not have an IC passport, you will need to apply for a visa.

About the APC KIOSK (Automated Passport Control KIOSK)

The immigration and customs inspection methods at Los Angeles Airport(TBIT) have been simplified from 26th October, 2020.  Therefore, the APC kiosk used for immigration is no longer available, and the customs declaration form that the passenger has to fill out in the cabin is not required. Also fingerprint collection is no longer necessary except for first-time visitors to the US.

Your carry-on baggage will be examined, and there will be a check for liquids in your possession.

Immigration

You do not have to go through Immigration when departing the United States.
Please hand in the immigration card* you completed upon arrival to airline staff.
If you do not hand in the card, you may face delays in the future when trying to enter the United States.

  • *If you have ESTA and you entered the US on the Visa Waiver Program, you do not need to submit an immigration card.
  • *The issue of this card has been discontinued as of May 2013, but if you entered the country prior to this date and have one attached to your passport, please hand it in.

Customs

There is no customs inspection when departing from the United States.

This lounge is for First Class passengers and members of JMB Diamond and JGC Premier.
The lounge is located after Security. Go straight on and take the elevator to level 5.

This lounge is for Business Class passengers and members of JMB Sapphire and JAL Global Club.
The lounge is located after Security. Take the elevator located in the center of the duty-free shopping area up to level 5.

Los Angeles International Lounge

This lounge is for Economy Class Normal Fare passengers and Premium Economy Class passengers.
The lounge is located after Security. Go straight on and take the elevator to level 6.
