Check-in at the airport

How to check in at Self Service Check-in Kiosks and airport counters.

The following customers must check in using a Self Service Check-in Kiosk

  • Customers with unassigned seats
  • Customers with international connections (ticketed on international flights)

The following types of customers must check in at an airport counter

  • Customers flying on codeshare flights (must check in at the operating airline's counter)
  • Customers requiring assistance
  • Customers traveling on fares that require documents to be presented
  • Customers wishing to check in using a ticket issued by another carrier

Please have one of the following required items ready.

Each traveler must bring one of the following items for verification. Services available to JAL Mileage Bank (JMB) members may differ from those available to non-members.
Please review the following lists and ensure each traveler has at least one item for verification.


For JMB members
  • JMB IC card or JAL CARD*
  • The printout of 2D barcode (e-ticket itinerary/receipt)
  • Ticket Nubmer
  • Mobile with JAL IC (NFC) function (Available on Japanese website only) *

*  If JMB membership number has been registered to booking in advance

For non-JMB members
  • The printout of 2D barcode (e-ticket itinerary/receipt)
  • Ticket Nubmer



Once check-in is completed, please proceed to security checkpoint.

Arrive at security checkpoint at least 20 minutes prior and at gate at least 10 minutes prior to departure time

Please scan/tap item at the security checkpoint and boarding gate.
