Changes to Awards after Mileage Redemption

  • The following award changes must be made within the ticket validity period by the deadlines indicated below.
  • Changes to the flight date, the flight number, and the class of service are permitted.
    Changes to the traveler's name, the flight sector (the cities of departure and arrival), and the number of involved flight sectors are not permitted.
  • Reservation changes for flights between Haneda and Narita, Itami and Kansai or Fukuoka and Kitakyushu are permitted. However, reservation changes for flights between Fukuoka and Kitakyushu cannot be made via the JAL website. Please call the JMB Domestic Award Reservation Desk.
  • Change of service class cannot be made through the JAL website.
  • Award tickets cannot be changed to open itineraries.
  • If changing a one-way (1 flight sector) ticket to a round-trip (2 flight sector) ticket after completing the award request, the change cannot be made by paying the additionally required mileage.
    If a round-trip (2 flight sector) ticket is changed to a one-way ticket by canceling one flight sector, the difference in mileage will not be returned.
  • Separate rules and conditions may apply to discount mileage award tickets and other promotions.
  • Please contact the JMB Domestic Award Reservation Desk / JMB Center if your award change cannot be made on the JAL website.
  • Information about how your award ticket will be handled if a delay or cancellation is expected or confirmed for your flight due to severe weather conditions, natural disasters, or aircraft maintenance can be found below.

Deadlines for Changing Reservations

Reservation changes will be accepted until 1 days prior to the new departure date. (not including the day of departure) and must be made before the departure time of the original reservation (20 minutes prior to departure if changes are made through the JAL website).

  • Reservation changes through the JAL website must be made at least 20 minutes prior to the departure of your reserved flight. If a change is required within 20 minutes prior to flight departure, please contact the JMB Domestic Award Reservations Desk.

Changing an Award Ticket to a Class J Award Ticket

  • Changing an award seat to a Class J seat is allowed upon payment of an additional 2,000 miles per flight sector per person.
  • Changes must be processed by the JMB Domestic Award Reservations Desk.
  • Some discount mileage award tickets and other promotion award tickets cannot be changed to a Class J award ticket. Please review the terms and conditions of the relevant promotion.
  • When changes are made to Class J award tickets, Class J for the new flight/ date may not be available or scheduled. In such cases, mileage deducted for a Class J seat will be refunded if you travel on a Economy Class due to Class J seat non-availability.
  • Mileage cannot be returned if it has expired at the time of the reinstatement request.

At the Airport on the Day of Departure

  • If you have booked a Economy Class but have a Class J award ticket (miles for Class J have already been deducted), you may travel in Class J if a Class J seat is available at the time of departure.
  • If Class J /First Class is available at the time of departure, you may travel in Class J/First Class by paying the relevant Class J/First Class fee. (JMB mileage is not accepted as methods of payment.)
  • Booking change can be accepted if there are seats available on an earlier flight operated by JAL Group on the day of departure.
  • Booking change cannot be made through Self Service Check-in and Ticketing Kiosk.
  • Please complete the change no later than 20 minutes prior to the departure time of the new flight.

Mileage Reinstatement Service for Unused Awards

After an award has been booked, the mileage used for the award can only be reinstated for totally unused awards by paying the applicable fee. All reinstated mileage must be returned to the JMB account from which it was redeemed.

  • The award ticket must be totally unused and within its validity period. (Refund requests will not be accepted after the departure of the first flight of your booked itinerary.)
  • Refunds will require a refund charge of ¥3,100 (tax included) (or local equivalent for regions other than Japan) per person per award.
  • The refund charge of JAL Group Domestic Flights JMB DIAMOND Award Tickets is ¥6,200 (tax included)
  • The refund charge must be paid by credit card. Please note that some credit cards will not be accepted.
  • The actual amount billed will be in the currency used for settlement by your credit card company.
  • If more than one award is cancelled at one time, a refund charge will be incurred for each award. If awards for two or more individuals are cancelled at the same time, a refund charge will be incurred for each individual involved.
  • Mileage cannot be returned if it has expired at the time of the reinstatement request.

  • Transactions through the JAL website must be made no later than 20 minutes prior to departure of the first flight sector. Please contact the JMB Domestic Award Reservations Desk/JMB Center for cancellations that cannot be made on the JAL website.
