Korea Electronic Travel Authorization (K-ETA) requirement under the Korea Visa Waiver program

K-ETA will be temporarily exempted to the 22 countries/regions starting from April 1, 2023 to December 31, 2024, as part of a plan to support the revitalization of the tourism industry in relation to commemorating 「Visit Korea Year (2023 ~ 2024)」.Kindly note, passengers from exempt countries may continue to apply for K-ETA, but will be charged a fee.For more information on countries/regions eligible for temporary exemption and details, Please refer to the website above.

Quarantine

Checks are carried out using infra-red cameras, and there is no need to submit a questionnaire. There are usually no issues with quarantine if you are arriving in Gimpo International Airport  from Japan.

Immigration

Japanese citizens generally do not require a visa to enter Korea for sightseeing purposes if the duration of stay is 90 days or less.
After arrival, please proceed from the passenger terminal bridge to Immigration on level 2. Please fill in the required information on the arrivals card handed out on the aircraft, and present it along with your passport to the immigration officer, who will stamp your passport with an arrivals stamp.

  • IMPORTANT
    • Immigration checks are rigorous, and individual travelers (but not sightseeing groups) may be required to present documents or samples explaining the reason for entering the country, so please be prepared.
    • Passengers who are deemed by the Korean government to be Korean nationals, or foreigners living in Korea in possession of an alien registration card, are not required to complete an arrivals card.
        Foreign nationals who do not possess alien registration cards are still required to submit an arrivals card.

Customs

Effective from May 1, 2023, submission of the Customs declaration form will be 【Optional】.
If you have nothing to declare, you do not need to submit the declaration.
If you have something to declare, please use one of the following forms.
・Customs declaration form(Paper)
・Mobile application "Korea Customs Service" (※)
(※) Input must be in English or Korean.

  • IMPORTANT
    • Please ensure that you declare any expensive items you are bringing in. Although they will be tax-exempt, their serial numbers will be recorded in your passport, and checks will be made at departure to ensure that the items are still in your possession.

Quarantine (Animals And Plants)

  • If you are carrying any kind of plant including seedlings, bulbs, raw fruits, fruits and vegetables, as well as golf clubs or golf shoes, it is necessary to declare them at the plant quarantine station at the time of arrival. If you fail to declare them, you will be fined.
  • Meat from Japan may not be brought.
  • At the request of the Korean quarantine authorities, passengers carrying animal products such as fresh meat or meat products, and plant products such as fresh fruits must self-dispose or declare them at the quarantine counter.
    Without the declaration will result in a fine of up to 10 million won.
    In addition, travelers who engaged in livestock industries must report to the animal and plant quarantine agency and undergo preventative measures such as disinfection treatment.

Pets

Prior reservation is necessary if you wish to bring your pet, as the transportation environment within the aircraft needs to be prepared.

The check-in counters are C counter on the 2nd floor at the international terminal.

Please present your passport and airline ticket to check in.

Carry-on baggage

All baggage will be X-rayed before Immigration.

  • IMPORTANT
    • It is forbidden to take more than 100ml of liquid on board the aircraft. (Liquids under 100ml can be taken on board the aircraft inside a transparent plastic bag. One bag per person.)
    • Carriage of spray cans is generally prohibited, but you are allowed one item of up to 500ml as checked baggage if it has passed through airport security.

Please show your passport and boarding pass to an immigration officer.

Customs

  • IMPORTANT
    • You do not need to declare currency unless it totals USD10,000 or more (or the equivalent in a foreign currency).
