Japan → Honolulu → Domestic Flight
All passengers arriving at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport from overseas must process through U.S. Immigration and Customs, regardless of whether they are transiting or staying in Honolulu. Passengers must retrieve all their checked baggage and proceed to the customs inspection area.
After completing the customs inspection, passengers with connecting flights within the same day may re-check in their bags at "HA Transit Bag Drop" to the left after customs exit.
- Bag drop only available for HA connecting flights. (Will be closed if HA manning doesn't permit.)
- Passengers without their boarding passes or need to recheck-in bags for their connecting flight may check-in at the departure terminal of their connecting air carrier.
Domestic Flight → Honolulu → Japan
Passengers must check to see if their check in baggage is tagged through to the final destination (Japan) in order to transit through Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (Honolulu) without retrieving their baggage. The final destination of the baggage may be verified with the baggage claim tag issued when the baggage was checked in.
- If the baggage is tagged only to "HNL" :
Pick up your checked in bags, then re-check in at Departure Lobby 5, JAL Check-in Counter. (Required to go through security checkpoint again)
Check in will be closed 60 minutes prior departure. - If the baggage is tagged to your final destination (Japan) :
Re-check in is required so please proceed to departure gate directly without leaving sterile area. (Check-in bag verification, travel document check, etc.)
Re-check in will be closed 30 minutes prior departure.
Business Class passenger, JAL Global Club member, or Oneworld Elite Status passenger, may also re-check in at the Sakura Lounge. After arriving Honolulu, you may access Sakura Lounge without leaving sterile area.
