Excess Baggage Charge

If your baggage exceeds the free allowance, we will check your baggage with an Excess Baggage Charge.

Notice

We will revise an Excess Baggage Charge starting from January 27, 2025.

Free checked baggage allowance

Up to 20 kg is free of charge for each passenger.

(Up to 45 kg is free of charge for First Class passengers.)

  • No limit to the number of bags.

For items exceeding the free allowance, while within a total weight of 100 kg (maximum to 32 kg per item), you may check them in by paying an Excess Baggage Charge.

Total weight must not exceed 45 kg (maximum to 32 kg per item) for JAL (AT4) and RAC aircraft.

  • For JAL flight operated by HAC and RAC aircraft, the total weight must not exceed 45 kg.

Excess Baggage Charge

A baggage charge of 440 yen per kilogram will be assessed for each itinerary from the airport where the baggage is checked to the airport where the baggage is picked up.

Even if you cancel your checked baggage at the connecting airport, excess baggage fees will not be refunded.

[Example]

Tokyo (Haneda) - Okinawa (Naha) - Miyako is considered as one itinerary when connecting between JAL Group airlines.

The following cases are counted as a separate itinerary and a separate baggage charge will be assessed.

  • Transfer within more than 24 hours.
  • When checked baggages are picked up at the same airport they were checked in at.
  • When an itinerary contains cordshare flights operated by other airlines.
    [Example]
    Tokyo (Haneda) - Kumamoto - Amakusa
    Between Kumamoto-Amakusa is operated by Amakusa airline.
  • When more than two reservation numbers are made by the same passenger (even if it is the same itinerary devided into separate reservations).

    Tokyo (Haneda) - Kagoshima - Yoron
    Reservation 1: Tokyo (Haneda) - Kagoshima
    Reservation 2: Kagoshima - Yoron
