Delays or cancellations due to unforeseen circumstances such as weather, natural disasters, airport closures, or air traffic control restrictions

  • Applies to passengers traveling on JAL operated flights. For JAL codeshare flights operated by other airlines, please contact the operating carrier.
  • Flights for which schedule changes or cancellations were announced before the day of travel are not eligible.
  • Provisions may differ depending on applicable local laws and regulations.

About Expense Reimbursement

If a delay or cancellation caused by JAL occurs on the day of travel, JAL will reimburse hotel  and ground transportation fee within the limits set by JAL.

Passengers are asked to pay expenses first and receive reimbursement from JAL afterwards.

Eligible passenger may apply online using a computer or smartphone.

How to Apply

Please submit your application using the "JAL Expense Reimbursement Request Form" located at the bottom of this page.

Required Documents for Application

  • Receipt of Accommodation and transportation fee
  • Boarding pass or boarding information slip issued at the security checkpoint (in case the ticket number is unknown)
  • Proof of travel on another airline (for domestic rebooked flights only)

Application Deadline

Please submit your application within 30 days from the scheduled departure date of your reserved flight (the date the delay or cancellation occurred).

Important Information for Submitting Requests

  • This online form is available only to passengers who have a Japanese financial institution account. If you do not have a Japanese financial institution account, please contact a JAL staff.
  • If you are passengers with group travel or tour tickets, please do not use the following URL. Instead, contact the travel agency that you booked with.
  • Infants traveling free of charge are not eligible for reimbursement.
  • When uploading the documents, ensure details (date, amount) are clearly visible. We may not be able to process your bank transfer if we cannot properly read the documents.
  • It takes about one month from the date of receipt of the reimbursement form from JAL for the reimbursement to be transferred to your financial institution's account. Please note that it may take up to two months depending on circumstances, such as when many flights are delayed or cancelled.
