Please kindly be announced that this service is suspended for the flights departing on and after 29th of March. This temporary suspension will continue for the time being.

Overview

This service allows you to make a bid and, if successful, upgrade to a class higher than the one you have purchased.

Eligible passengers

Passengers who have reserved and purchased air tickets through the JAL website and then receive an invitation email which will be sent depending on the availability of the upgrade class.

Boarding class after upgrade

  • Premium Economy Class
  • Business Class *
  • In case of aircraft not equipped with Premium Economy

Eligible routes

JAL operated international routes (excluding codeshares flights operated by partner airlines)

Payment

Credit Card (VISA / MASTER / AMEX*)

*Only applicable USD/GBP/EUR/CAD/SGD (as of March, 2020)

Currency

Must be in the same currency as the purchased Economy Class ticket. 

Miles and FLYON points

The accrual rate of the reservation class of the ticket purchased before bidding will be applied.

  • Customers who upgrade from Economy Class Award Tickets are not eligible for mileage accrual.

Steps to apply

STEP1

Eligible passengers will be contacted by email

  • An e-mail will be sent to eligible customers 7 days prior to departure of the eligible flight.
  • An e-mail will be sent from "JALBidUpgrade@bid.jal.com", so please make the necessary settings for receiving emails from the domain in advance.
  • An e-mail will be sent to eligible customers 7 days prior to departure of the eligible flight.

Apply for bidding

  • You can find the eligible flights of your itinerary on web page for bid.
  • Upgrade Bid application will be accepted up to 48 hours before departure.
  • If you wish to bid, please enter the Upgrade Bid amount and payment credit card information * to the dedicated form that can be accessed from the link on email.
  • We will charge your credit card only when the upgrade is confirmed.
  • You can find the eligible flights of your itinerary on web page for bid.
  • Upgrade Bid application will be accepted up to 48 hours before departure.
  • If you wish to bid, please enter the Upgrade Bid amount and payment credit card information * to the dedicated form that can be accessed from the link on email.
  • We will charge your credit card only when the upgrade is confirmed.

Information on upgrade results

  • If successful, you will be advised by email at least 24 hours before departure.
  • Upgrades will be finalized in descending order of bid. If multiple customers bid at the same price, the upgrade will be finalized based on the priority order of the purchased ticket reservation class, JMB status, and bid execution date and time.
  • Depending on the reservation status of the applicable flight at the time of bidding deadline, there may be occasions when no upgrades are offered.
  • If successful, you will be advised by email at least 24 hours before departure.
  • Upgrades will be finalized in descending order of bid. If multiple customers bid at the same price, the upgrade will be finalized based on the priority order of the purchased ticket reservation class, JMB status, and bid execution date and time.
  • Depending on the reservation status of the applicable flight at the time of bidding deadline, there may be occasions when no upgrades are offered.

If you did not make a successful bid

  • We will contact you by email at least 24 hours before departure.
  • The bid amount will not be charged. Please board in the purchased Economy Class.
  • We ask your understanding that inquiries regarding upgrade results are not accepted.

JAL Bid Upgrade Mile Commemorative Campaign

Miles and FLYON points for the upgraded booking classes (Business Class: X 125%, Premium Economy Class: E 100%) will be accrued for passengers who have been upgraded and boarded by this service until July 12, 2020.

  • Customers who are upgraded from Economy Class award tickets are not eligible.
  • In addition, the campaign period may be changed without notice. Please note.
