Times of inflight Wi-Fi availability

The service is available once the plane reaches an altitude of 10,000 feet.

Regions where inflight Wi-Fi is available

As inflight Wi-Fi service relies on satellite communications, there are some regions where the connection is unstable or unavailable.

Around the Arctic: Satellite communications can be challenging and may be unavailable at certain times of the day.

Over North America: The connection is less stable than in other regions at certain times of day.

High-speed connectivity

Low-speed connectivity

  • Because data capacity is shared among all passengers, the service does not support VoIP applications such as Skype for voice or video calls.
  • As the service relies on satellite communications, the connection may become unstable or be interrupted depending on the flight route or weather conditions.
In some cases, disruptions may last from several minutes to several hours.
  • It may take longer to view or download videos or data that require high-speed connectivity. Additionally, connectivity may be limited during periods of heavy network traffic.
  • SES Inflight Wi-Fi Services
    Boeing 737-800 (738/73H) V40 aircraft are equipped with a Wi-Fi system.
