Paid Exclusive Meal

Notice

We commenced the sale of paid exclusive meal on November 27, 2023.
We will provide the meal for flights departing Japan on/after December 1, 2023 (JST).
Please see below for details.

Service Outline

You can choose to upgrade to a paid in-flight meal menu (Japanese/Western) in Premium Economy Class and Economy Class on international flights departing from Japan.
The applicable meal will be the first meal service.

JAL-operated long- and medium-haul flights* departing from Japan (Haneda/Narita)

  • Europe, America, Australia, Southeast Asia routes excluding some late-night flights

Service Fee

Service fee varies by region of purchase.

  • If you purchase in the other regions except for Japan and Canada, it will be paid in currency applicable to each region equivalent to the US dollar amount.

  • The fee for children is the same as for adults.

Economy class or Premium Economy Class

  • This Paid Exclusive Meal service is not applicable to certain fares such as Group inclusive tour fare ,include inclusive tour, etc.

How to apply for the service

Reservation deadline

25 hours prior to international flight departure (local time)

How to purchase

You can purchase the Paid Exclusive Meal at the same time when you purchase an international airline ticket on  JAL website, or you can purchase it from "Manage Booking" function on JAL website.
​To apply, please see the information below.

  • In case you use an award ticket, please purchase the service from the "Manage Booking" page on JAL website.
  • If you make a reservation only, this service cannot be purchased. Please make your purchase using the "Manage Booking" function on JAL website after ticket purchase.
  • ​Passengers who purchase or change airline tickets at other than JAL website and who meet following condition cannot purchase this service at JAL website. Please contact JAL call center if you would like to purchase it.
  • In case passenger purchased ticket in a country other than the country where they commence the travel.
    Example: Purchase ticket departing from Japan at call center in America.
  • In case passenger changed their ticket in a country other than the country where they commence the travel.
    Example: Change ticket departing from United Kingdom at ticketing counter in Thailand.

In case there is no sector change

Paid Exclusive Meal can be served.
Service Fee is refundable if the service is not available for new flight or if passenger does not request an arrangement.

In case there is sector change

Service fee is refundable.
Please visit JAL website and purchase the service again, in case a new flight is applicable for this service and quantities of sales.

Upgrades with miles or additional payment

Service fee is refundable.
Please request the refund to JAL call center, in case you apply for the upgrade service through JAL website or at the airport on the date of your flight.

In case upgrade from Premium Economy class or Economy class to Business class

Service fee is refundable.

In case upgrade from Economy class to Premium Economy class

Please visit JAL website and purchase the service again, in case a new flight is applicable for this service and quantities of sales.

Change from Paid Exclusive Meal to other meals

Passenger can change after purchasing the sevice.
Please contact JAL call center for the refund.

Refunds

Service fee is refundable.
Please contact JAL call center for the refund.

  • Refund validity: 1 year and 30 days from the date of purchase.
  • To passengers who purchased your JAL ticket from travel agent: If you are changing or cancelling your flight, please contact the travel agent.
    In regards to Paid Exclusive Meal or refund of the fee, please contact JAL call center.

Changes and Refunds (Involuntary reasons other than passenger convenience)

Important notes for attention in case of changes in flight reservations due to reasons other than the passenger's convenience.

Passengers who purchased tickets through JAL

We will rearrange this service whenever possible.
If the re-arrangement is made by JAL, no further process is needed by the passenger. 
Please note depending on the alternative flight, the service may not be rearranged. In such occasions, the service fee will be automatically refunded.
Please be sure to check your service re-arrangement status on the reservation details page before boarding.

How to check services on the JAL Web site

If this service has been rearranged, it will be indicated in the flight information field on the reservation details screen.
Please check the status of service rearrangement at latest by one day before departure.

Passengers who purchased JAL ticket from travel agent

We will rearrange this service whenever possible. 
Please note depending on the alternative flight, the service may not be rearranged. In such occasions, the service fee will be automatically refunded.
Re-arrangement status can be checked from the reservation details screen on the JAL Web site.

However, the re-arrangement status of this service must be confirmed in the following cases. Please contact JAL Call Center at latest by one day before departure after rearranging your ticket at travel agency.

  • When flight change involves route change
  • If the flight is rearranged by travel agency
  • If changes in cabin class occurs

Passengers who have refunded their tickets

The fee for this service will also be refunded. Please contact JAL Call Center.

  • Refund application period: Within 1 year and 30 days from the date of purchase
