Kato Yoshiaki, the first lord of the domain, spent about a quarter of a century from 1602 building this castle on Katsuyama, 132 meters above sea level. The current castle tower was reconstructed and completed in 1854, and is one of the 12 existing castle towers in Japan. There are 21 important cultural properties in the castle, and it is renowned as an impregnable castle with excellent defense due to its complex and solid construction.

The Dogo Onsen Honkan, the symbol of Dogo Onsen, which boasts 3,000 years of history and is said to be the oldest onsen in Japan, was designated as a National Important Cultural Property in 1994, the first public bathhouse still in use, in recognition of its importance and value as a large-scale wooden building complex based on a Japanese style. In July 2024, which marked the 130th anniversary of the renovation, the entire building reopened for business for the first time in five and a half years.

The castle was built in 1331 during the Kamakura period and was extensively renovated and developed during the Edo period. The castle was dismantled once in the Meiji era, but was faithfully restored in wooden form in the Heisei era thanks to the enthusiasm of local residents and a wealth of materials. Today, the four turrets are still Important Cultural Properties, and the ruins of the castle are designated as a Prefectural Historic Site.

The former Matsui Family Residence's main house is a villa built in 1926 by Kunigoro Matsui, a man who achieved great wealth through diversified business expansion in Manila, the Philippines, including the operation of a trading company and a department store for Japanese immigrants. Located on a hill, the villa overlooks the town of Yuzuki and its magnificent nature, and features luxurious construction with an international flavor, including the use of South Sea wood and balconies.
