- Paid seat can be selected from exit row and/or bulkhead seat when available.
In some aircraft type code such as V40, seats with extra legroom are not in front row. - Seat availability is limited.
- Seat configuration type varies by aircraft type.

Extra legroom provides more space to stretch out with improved comfort. Fee-based options include a bulkhead or an exit row seat.

- For the safety of our customers, any movement is recommended when the seatbelt sign is off. Select aircraft (configuration V40) may differ in legroom space. Please check specific seat maps prior to travel.
Easy steps to reserve a seat
Extra legroom seats are fee-based and are available to reserve during the reservation process or after completion of the ticketed reservation.
Fee-based seats are marked with a ☆ (star) on the seat map and are limited in quantity.

- If you purchase in the other rigions except for Japan and Canada, you will be paying in currency applicable to each region equivalent to the US dollar amount.

- Infants traveling without a seat is not required to purchase.

Eligible Ticket and Applicable Flight
- JAL International Tickets (Tickets issued by Japan Airlines starting with '131' )
- Ticketed as JAL international flight numbers and operated by JAL
booking class
Passengers who have reservation with below booking class
Economy class (B/H/K/M/L/V/S/Q/N/O/T)
- JMB Diamond, JGC Premier, JMB Sapphire, JMB Cristal, JAL Global Club and One World Tier Status members can choose extra legroom seats free of charge in advance.
Extra Legroom Seat is available free of charge through JAL contact center for an accompanying passenger traveling in the same class with status members above. - If you have booked your flight with booking class "Y", you can select extra legroom seats free of charge in advance.
- Certain fare type* not eligible for advance seat selection service are not eligible for paid seat.
This paid seat service is not applicable to certain fares such as Group inclusive tour fare (include inclusive tour) etc. - The range of seats available for selection may be limited based on fare type, required mileage (award ticket) and purchase location.
Because only a limited number of seats can be pre-selected, we may not be able to accommodate your preferences. - Emergency exit row seats will be limited to passengers satisfying all of the conditions.
Exit row seats will be re-assigned on the day of departure without any refund if customers do not meet any of the safety criteria.
How to apply for the service and way of boarding
How to purchase
You can purchase this service at the same time as you purchase your ticket on the JAL website or, you can purchase it afterwards from the "Manage Booking" function on our website.
To apply for this service, please see below for details.
- Purchases can be made before check-in (including Online Check in) is complete.
- Please contact JAL contact center if you are traveling with an infant.
- In case you use an award ticket, please purchase the service from the "Manage Booking" page on JAL website.
- If have made a reservation, you cannot purchase this service until you have issued your ticket. Please make your purchase using the "Manage Booking" function on our website.
- Passengers who purchase or change airline tickets at other than JAL website and who meet following condition cannot purchase this service at JAL website. As there are conditions other than those listed below, please contact JAL contact center if paid seat is not displayed.
- In case passenger purchased ticket in a country other than the country where they commence the travel.
Example : Purchase ticket departing from Japan at JAL contact center in America. - In case passenger changed their ticket in a country other than the country where they commence the travel.
Example : Change ticket departing from United Kingdom at ticketing counter in Tokyo.

Way of boarding
You can check in and get on board as usual with the boarding pass where your seat number of the paid seat displays.
Online Check-in advance registration/Online Check-in is available when you purchased paid seat.

Seat change is permitted without additional fee.
Change to free seat
Seat change is permitted, but the fee for purchased paid seat is not refundable.
Flight Change
Flight change through JAL website after you purchased an extra legroom seats are not available. Please contact JAL contact center if you need to change a flight.
In case of change to flight on same sector
You can still select a paid seat without additional fee.
When you select free seat, the fee for purchased paid seat is refundable.
In case of change to flight on different sector
The fee for purchased paid seat is refundable.
Please purchase through JAL website if you wish to select a paid seat on new flight.
Upgrades with miles or additional payment
The fee for purchased paid seat is refundable.
Please contact JAL contact center if you applied Upgrade through JAL website or at departing airport.
Refunds
Refunds for paid seat only is not accepted in case there is no flight change.
If you request refund for JAL ticket, the fee purchased paid seat is refundable. Please contact JAL contact center for the refund.

If you are changing or cancelling your flight, please contact the travel agent.
In regards to paid advance seat selection or refund of the fee, please contact JAL contact center.
Changes and Refunds(Involuntary reasons other than passenger convenience)
Seats may be changed by JAL for reasons other than passenger convenience, such as flight equipment change, weather reasons, etc.
We will arrange alternate seating similar to original paid seat type whenever possible.
Please note that depending on the alternative flight, seats may be reassigned to free seats or paid seats with different attributes (aisle/window side, etc.).
How to check service on the JAL website
If this service has been rearranged, it will be indicated in the flight information field on the reservation details screen.
Please check the status of service rearrangement at latest one day before departure.
Passengers who purchased tickets through JAL
Please register your contact information on the reservation details page in order to receive various notifications (e.g., seat number changes) regarding your reservation.
When seat is rearranged to another paid seat
No further procedure is required.
If you do not accept the paid seats that have been reassigned
If you wish to change to free seat due to change in attributes (window/aisle side) or other reasons, the fee for this service will be refunded. Please contact JAL contact center.
- Refund application period: Within 1 year and 30 days from the date of purchase
When seats are assigned to free seats
The fee for this service will be refunded. JAL contact center will contact you to process your refund and reassign your free seat.
If you request refund for JAL ticket
The fee for this service will also be refunded.
Passengers who purchased tickets through travel agency
When seats are assigned to paid seats
No further procedure is required.
If you do not accept the paid seats that have been reassigned
If you wish to change to free seat due to change in attributes (window/aisle side) or other reasons, the fee for this service will be refunded. Please contact JAL contact center.
- Refund application period: Within 1 year and 30 days from the date of purchase
When seats are assigned to free seats
The fee for this service will be refunded. JAL contact center will contact you to process your refund.
However, the re-arrangement status of this service must be confirmed in the following cases. Please contact JAL contact center at latest by one day before departure after rearranging your ticket at travel agency.
- When flight change involves route change
- If the flight is rearranged by travel agency
If you request refund for JAL ticket
If you request refund for JAL ticket, please contact your travel agent.
However, please contact JAL contact center for a refund of the fee for this service, as the travel agent is unable to do so.
