Service Outline

You can choose to upgrade to a paid in-flight meal menu (WASHOKU / International Cuisine) in Premium Economy Class and Economy Class on international flights departing from Japan.
The applicable meal will be the first meal service.

JAL-operated long- and medium-haul flights* departing from Japan (Haneda/Narita)

  • Europe, America, Australia, Southeast Asia routes excluding some late-night flights

Service Fee

Service fee varies by region to purchase airline tickets.

  • If you purchase in the other regions except for Japan and Canada, it will be paid in currency applicable to each region equivalent to the US dollar amount.

Passengers who meet the following conditions

JAL international tickets (Ticket numbers starting with 131)

Booking Class

Economy class or Premium Economy Class

  • This service is not applicable to certain fares such as Group inclusive tour fares.
  • There may be cases where the inclusive tour purchased at the travel agent is not eligible for this service.

How to purchase

You can purchase the Paid Exclusive Meal at the same time when you purchase an international airline ticket on the JAL website, or you can purchase it from "Manage Booking" function on the JAL website.

  • This service is not for sale at Check-in counters.
  • In case you use an award ticket, please purchase the service from the "Manage Booking" page on the JAL website.
  • If you make a reservation only, this service cannot be purchased. Please make your purchase using the "Manage Booking" function on the JAL website after ticket purchase.
  • Passengers who purchase or change airline tickets at other than the JAL website and who meet following condition cannot purchase this service at the JAL website.
    As there are conditions other than those listed below, please contact the JAL Contact Center if you would like to purchase it.
  • In case passenger purchased ticket in a country other than the country where they commence the travel.
    Example: Purchase ticket departing from Japan at the JAL Contact Center in America.
  • In case passenger changed their ticket in a country other than the country where they commence the travel.
    Example: Change ticket departing from United Kingdom at ticketing counter in Thailand.

Important notes for attention in case of changes in flight reservations due to reasons other than the passenger's convenience.

For customers who purchased tickets through JAL

We will rebook this service whenever possible.
If rebooking has been completed, no action is required from you.
Please note that rebooking may not be possible depending on the replacement flight. In such cases, purchased EMD will be refunded.

  • Refund deadline: within 1 year and 30 days from the EMD issue date

Please be sure to check your service arrangement status on the reservation details page before your flight.

How to check services on the JAL website

If this service has been rearranged, it will be indicated in the flight information field on the reservation details screen.
Please check the status of service rearrangement at latest by one day before departure.

If you are requesting a refund for your flight ticket

Purchased EMD will also be refunded.

  • Refund deadline: within 1 year and 30 days from the EMD issue date

For customers who purchased tickets through travel agencies

We will rebook this service whenever possible.
Please note that rebooking may not be possible depending on the replacement flight. In such cases, purchased EMD will be refunded.

How to check services on the JAL website

However, the re-arrangement status of this service must be confirmed in the following cases. Please contact the JAL Contact Center at latest by one day before departure after rearranging your ticket at travel agency.

  • When flight change involves route change
  • If the flight is rearranged by travel agency
  • If changes in cabin class occurs

If you are requesting a refund for your flight ticket

For refunds of tickets, please contact the travel agency where you purchased the ticket.
Since refunds for purchased EMD cannot be handled by travel agencies, please contact the JAL Contact Center for assistance.
