Examples of insects able to be transported

This is primarily intended for rhinoceros beetles and bell crickets. Please contact JAL if you wish to transport any other types of insects.

Container (crate) requirements

You are responsible for providing your own animal carrier (transportation container), which must satisfy the following requirements:

1. Made of wood, strong cardboard, polystyrene foam, or some other material of similar strength. 

2. Have measures to prevent insects from escaping through gaps.

Please also observe the following requirements:

  1. Sturdy packaging:The outer packaging must be made from shock-resistant materials and be sturdy enough not to collapse when subject to external force.
  2. Sealed container: The packaging must be designed so as to prevent escape, with the insects kept in a bag inside an external container.
  3. Suitable ventilation:The container must have ventilation holes that provide sufficient air flow.
  4. Escape-proof:The animal should not be able to stick its body part out of the ventilation holes.
  5. Smooth internal surface:The interior of the container must be smooth enough to prevent injury to the animal.
  6. Safe door operation: The door or cover must be designed so as not to come open during transportation.
  7. Leak-proof: The container must be designed so as not to leak excrement or other fluids.
  8. Clean:The interior of the container must be clean (have been disinfected or otherwise cleaned).
  9. Space: The container must be large enough for the animal to turn around.
  10. Compliant with laws and regulations: All necessary transportation documentation must be attached.
  11. Temperature control: Do not use heating pads or other dangerous goods to keep the container warm.
