Amendments of IATA Cargo IMP Codes Used for Vehicles

The 67th edition of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR), which will come into effect on January 1, 2026, will change some of the dangerous goods regulations. Among these changes, the amendment of the IATA Cargo IMP Codes used for vehicles will come into effect on January 1, 2026, without any transitional period. Please see below for further details.

1. Amendments of IATA Cargo IMP Codes used for vehicles

New IMP codes will be assigned depending on the vehicle's power source as follows:

New codes Old codes Meaning of the Codes Applicable Proper shipping names, Classifications, and UN numbers, 
RVB RMD or RLI Vehicle, battery powered  ・Vehicle, lithium ion battery powered (Class9, UN3556) transported under Packing Instruction 952
RMD or RLM ・Vehicle, lithium metal battery powered (Class9, UN3557) transported under Packing Instruction 952
RMD or RLI ・Vehicle, sodiium ion battery powered (Class9, UN3558) transported under Packing Instruction 952
RVF RMD Vehicle, flammable gas, or flammable liquid powered  ・Vehicle, flammable gas powered (Class9, UN3166) transported under Packing Instruction 951, including those powered by fuel cells (CAO)
・Vehicle, flammable liquid powered (Class9, UN3166) transported under Packing Instruction 950, including those powered by fuel cells  (e.g Vehicle powered by gasoline or light oil) 
RVH RMD Vehicle, hybrid ・Vehicle, flammable gas powered, hybrid (Class9, UN3166) transported under Packing Instruction 951(CAO)
・Vehicle, flammable liquid powered, hybrid (Class9, UN3166) transported under Packing Instruction 950
RVO RMD Vehicle, other ・Battery-powered vehicle (Class9, UN3171) transported under Packing Instruction 952. The sources of power are such batteries as wet batteries, metallic sodium, sodium alloy batteries, and others.

Effective Date  : January 1st, 2026 (No transitional period)

 

When transporting a vehicle from January 1, 2026, please use the new IATA Cargo IMP code.
