An Extra Checked Baggage allowance for Sports Equipment (eg: skis, clubs, diving gear and bicycles)
Fly Japan Airlines to enjoy Skiing, Golf, Diving and Cycling in Japan. For a limited time, we are offering an extra checked baggage allowance for overseas travelers bound for Japan with their sports equipment.

Campaign Details
[Common rule]
- Campaign applicable Content: Sports Equipment (Ski and snowboard equipment, golf equipment, bicycles, diving equipment, including underwater photography equipment) are exempted from 1 PC of excess baggage charge (Fee for Exceeding Free Baggage Size).
- Maximum weight: 45 kg or less (However, for the London/Paris/Helsinki/Sydney/Melbourne routes, baggage need to be less than 32 KG)
Applicable Sports equipment
Skis and Snowboards
- 1PC of excess baggage and the excess size charge (Fee for Exceeding Free Baggage Size) shall be exempted.
- If the baggage exceeds the weight of the free allowance, the excess weight charge is applied.
- Up to 2 sets of ski and snowboard are accepted as this campaign.
- Ski Boots and Snowboard Boots shall not be counted as checked baggage if the following conditions are met:. (not subject to overage charges)
Conditions: If ski or snowboard and only a pair of boots are in the same bag. Maximum of two pairs of boots can be in the same bag.- Below cases will be counted as a baggage.
- Contains other items besides boots or is designed to contain other items than boots
- Not carried with skis or snowboards
- Integrated baggage (All-In-One Bag) with ski, snowboard and boots is exempt from 1 PC of excess baggage and the excess baggage charge (Fee for Exceeding Free Baggage Size).
- If the baggage exceeds the weight of the free allowance, the excess weight charge is applied.
- Up to 2 sets of ski and snowboard per 1 case are handled as the campaign equipment.
Golf bags
- 1PC of excess baggage and the excess size charge (Fee for Exceeding Free Baggage Size) shall be exempted.
- If the bag exceeds the weight of the free allowance, the excess weight charge is applied.
- The Integrated baggage (All-In-One Bag) with golf bags and shoes is exempt from 1 PC of excess baggage and the excess size charge (Fee for Exceeding Free Baggage Size).
- If the bag exceeds the weight of the free allowance, the excess weight charge is applied.
Bicycle
- 1PC of excess baggage and the excess size charge (Fee for Exceeding Free Baggage Size) shall be exempted.
- When the weight of checked baggage exceeds the free allowance, the extra charge is applied.
- Bicycle box: 250 cm (99 inches) or less
- Length: 140 cm (55 inches) x Height: 80 cm (32 inches) x Width: 30 cm (12 inches)
- Handling Precautions
- deflate the tires
- remove the pedal
- Secure the handle frame in parallel
- Electric bicycles are not allowed
- If the total size of the bicycle is more than 140 cm (55 inches), place the removed front wheels in the box secured to the side of the rear wheels.
Diving and Underwater Photography Equipment
- 1PC of excess baggage and the excess size charge (Fee for Exceeding Free Baggage Size) shall be exempted.
- When the weight of checked baggage exceeds the free allowance, the extra charge is applied.
- Handling Precautions
- Batteries for diving equipment (Light) or cameras must be removed from the main body under dangerous goods regulations
Terms and Conditions
Campaign period: December 15, 2021 – March 31, 2024
- Note: If a passenger journey begins during the above period, special handling will continue to apply even after March 31, 2024 for returning flight departing from Japan.
Eligibility
- Eligible Passengers
- Passengers who take applicable flights with applicable international air tickets and who apply to JL contact center in their respective areas to apply for this campaign by one day before their departure date.
- Eligible itinerary : Itineraries originating from outside of Japan, and its final destination is Japan
- Eligible Ticket
- Passengers need to purchase the air ticket outside of Japan. The eligible fare types are fares that are only available outside of Japan.
- Eligible fare types
- International tickets purchased outside of Japan, including applicable flights (regardless of the ticketing carrier or place)
- International sector includes award ticket and Group tickets
- For domestic flight sector, sector issued within international through itinerary.
- Japanese domestic normal fare (YKJL, etc.), Japan Explorer Pass and JAL Japan Airpass, tickets issued by international ticket.
- Eligible flights
- International JL flights and JL/JTA domestic flights (However, FDA, GK, AMX and RAC operated flights are excluded.)
- Not applicable to other carrier market codeshare flights and itineraries travelling via Japan
- Not applicable to through-check-in itinerary for connecting to/from another carrier operated flights
Handling in case of transit
- Connecting passengers to/from JAL Domestic flights

- The international flights must be JL operated flights with JL flight numbers.
- In case of connecting to/from other airline's international flight, this campaign applies only for JAL domestic flights.
Only passengers who have separate tickets for international sector and domestic sector will be eligible.
Through check-in baggage to/from international sector is not permitted.
- Connecting passengers beyond JL International Online Airports
This campaign applies only for JAL operating flights.
