Redeeming Mileage JAL Group Airlines Domestic Award Tickets

Upgrade Awards are not available for Japan Domestic flights.

  • * Eligible routes for RAC are Okinawa (Naha)-Kumejima/Miyako/Yonaguni, Ishigaki-Miyako/Yonaguni routes
    From September 1, 2012 (on board basis), all RAC routes will be eligible for award ticket travel. Reservation will start at 9:30 a.m. the same calendar date, 2 months prior to the date of departure.
  • * Some flights only operate during certain seasons, and not all year round. Operating carrier may change or may be cancelled.
  • * Code-share flights operated by other airlines (such as Fuji Dream airline) will not be eligible for award tickets.

Eligible Classes

  • Regular Seat
  • Class J

  • * All seats on JAC routes, and RAC routes are "Regular Seats".
  • * Class J are not available on some domestic routes and flights.
  • * First Class award ticket is not available. However you may board on First Class by paying a surcharge if you hold either an Economy Class award ticket or Class J award ticket and if First Class seats are available at the airport on the day of departure. (Advance reservation for First Class is not permitted when your base ticket is a JMB award ticket. You cannot board on First Class by using your mileage at the airport on the day of departure.)

Required Mileage

Regular Seat
Please refer to the "JAL Group Domestic Award Mileage chart".
  • * When you take flights involving a combination of different zones for round-trip(2 flight sector) award ticket, the required mileage will be half of the required miles of each zone.
  • * Once Award ticket application for one-way (1 flight sector) only is completed, it cannot be changed to a round-trip (2 flight sector) ticket at a later transaction. If you wish to change it to a round-trip (2 flight sector) ticket afterwards, the one-way Award ticket must be refunded upon payment of refund charge, and the new round-trip (2 flight sector) Award ticket must be newly applied.
    In case round-trip (2 flight sectors) ticket is changed to one-way (1 flight sector) award tickets, the difference in the required mileage shall not be returned.
  • * Awards issued for children and infants require the same mileage as those issued for adults.
  • * Two sectors of JTA/RAC Ryukyu island routes (see below) may be combined with Hokkaido/Honshu/Shikoku/Kyushu = Okinawa (Naha, Ishigaki, Miyako, Kumejima) routes on JAL/JTA with an additional 5,000 miles. However, for three or more neighbor island sectors, an additional miles depending on an area will be deducted for every two additional sectors.
However, after completion of mileage redemption, use of neighbor island route with an additional 5,000 miles is not permitted.

  • * When award tickets for Hokkaido/Honshu/Shikoku/Kyushu = Okinawa(Naha, Ishigaki, Miyako, Kumejima) and JTA/RAC neighbor island routes are combined, one-way (1 flight sector) mileage will not apply for neither Hokkaido/Honshu/Shikoku/Kyushu = Okinawa(Naha, Ishigaki, Miyako, Kumejima) sector nor JTA/RAC neighbor island route sector.
  • * Application of Awards using discount mileage is possible only through the JAL website(Japanese only) within the eligible period.
Class J Award Tickets
Class J Award Ticket may be redeemed together with an additional 2,000miles for 1flight sector per person (4,000 miles for 2 flight sectors on Class J seat) to the mileage required for the Regular Seat Award Ticket.
Other rules and conditions may apply to Campaigns where Awards can be redeemed for less mileage.

  • * Application of Awards using discount mileage is possible only through the JAL website(Japanese only) within the eligible period.
   

Validity

  • JAL Group domestic award tickets are valid only for the flight and date originally reserved. Failure to travel on the reserved flight and date will result in forfeiture of the award ticket.
  • Only for the case that a member has contacted the JMB Domestic Award Reservations Desk, Japan to make changes on the award ticket no later than 4 days prior to the individual departure date of your intended flight on either or both of the first / second sector(s), or up until the departure time of your original flight(s), whichever comes earlier, does the award ticket become valid for the next 90 days starting from the following day of the original date of the award ticket issuance (mileage redemption completed).
  • To reinstate miles after they have been deducted, please see"MILEAGE REINSTATEMENT SERVICE"for unused awards. Please also note that the mileage cannot be reinstated after the first flight of the award ticket has departed.

Conditions for Using Awards

Itineraries
All flights must be confirmed at the time of mileage redemption.
Any 2 flight sectors or 1 flight sector can be included in 1 award.
  • * Only non-stop or direct flights may be used.
  • * All award flight sectors must be on direct flight.
  • * Haneda and Narita airports in Tokyo are considered to be the same city, as are Itami and Kansai airports in Osaka.
  • * In the event that 2 flight sectors of JTA/RAC neighbor island routes are combined with Hokkaido/Honshu/Shikoku/Kyushu-Okinawa(Naha, Ishigaki, Miyako, Kumejima) routes on JAL/JTA with an additional 5,000 miles, the same flight sector cannot be used when going in the same direction.
  • * When award tickets for Hokkaido/Honshu/Shikoku/Kyushu = Okinawa(Naha, Ishigaki, Miyako, Kumejima) and JTA/RAC neighbor island routes are combined, one-way (1 flight sector) mileage will not apply for neither Hokkaido/Honshu/Shikoku/Kyushu = Okinawa(Naha, Ishigaki, Miyako, Kumejima) sector nor JTA/RAC neighbor island route sector.

Changes To Awards after Mileage Redemption

After mileage redemption, the date, flight or class may be changed. Please contact the JMB Domestic Award Reservation Desk by the deadline shown below to change reservations.
However, the traveler's name and the travel sector(s) cannot be changed. Award tickets cannot be changed to open itineraries either.

  • * When changes are made to Class J award tickets, Class J for the new flight/ date may not be available or scheduled. In such cases, regular seat may have to be taken instead, and mileage for the Class J portion will not be reinstated.
  • * When you wish to change your regular seat to Class J at the airport on the day of departure, please go through the upgrade procedure at the airport ticketing counter and mention that required mileage for Class J has already been deducted.
  • * If an earlier flight on the day of departure is available at the airport, you may board the earlier flight provided it is of the same flight sector.
  • * Upgrade to "Class J" from regular seat on Domestic Award Tickets are available with an additional 2,000 miles per flight sector per person. If Class J are available at the time of departure, you may travel in Class J by paying a Class J surcharge.
  • * Once Award ticket application for one-way (1 flight sector) only is completed, it cannot be changed to a round-trip (2 flight sector) ticket at a later transaction. If you wish to change it to a round-trip (2 flight sector) ticket afterwards, the one-way Award ticket must be refunded upon payment of refund charge, and the new round-trip (2 flight sector) Award ticket must be newly applied.

Deadlines for changing reservations

Reservation must be changed at least 4 days before the new departure date of the flight sector or before the original departure date and time of the flight sector (whichever comes first).
However, the journey must be completed within the validity of the award tickets.

  • 1) Reservation changes will be accepted at the JMB Domestic Award Reservation Desk until the closing of business hours. Reservation changes through the JAL website will be accepted until 23:59.
  • 2) Reservation changes through the JAL website can be made up to one hour prior to your flight departure. If a change is needed within one hour prior to your flight departure, please contact the JMB Domestic Award Reservation Desk.
  • * For JTA/RAC Ryukyu island routes added to routes connecting JAL/JTA Hokkaido/Honshu/Shikoku/Kyushu and Okinawa(Naha, Ishigaki, Miyako, Kumejima) by means of an addition of 5000 miles, the order of flight sectors cannot be changed.
  • * Failure to travel on the reserved flight and date or an earlier flight on the same day will result in the forfeiture of the award ticket.
    Mileage may not be refunded and the award may not be changed to a different one.
  • * To reinstate mileage after they have been deducted, please see "Mileage Reinstatement Service".
    However, mileage may not be refunded upon the departure of first sector's flight.

How to Redeem and Use Flight Awards

The content of conversation with the customer may be recorded or monitored to ensure quality service.

  • * You must make reservations by calling the JMB Domestic Award Reservations Desk, starting no earlier than 7:00, two months before, and no later than the JAL office business hour closing time of 20:00, 4 days before your departure date.(For reservations made through the JAL homepage, the deadline for award requests is 23:59 4 days prior to the flight departure date.) (When the same date of the month does not exist two months before, reservations will be accepted from the last date of the month two months prior to the departure date.) However, reservations for 2nd sector or more will be accepted by applying to “Return Trip Confirmation Service” more than two months prior to departure date if whole itinerary ends within 15 days from the departure date for the first sector.
  • * At the time of making reservations, you must already have in your JMB account the total amount of mileage that is needed for the award, otherwise you cannot make a reservation.
  • * All flights must be confirmed in order to issue an award. Waitlists are not permitted.
    Award tickets specifying certain flights sectors but without flight reservations cannot be issued.
  • * Wailtlisted reservations for the domestic flights of the international award tickets are not permitted.

How to check in at the airport

Please check in using the following method on the day of departure.

Check-in using the Ticketing and Check-in Machine
When the JMB member whose mileage has been deducted is traveling
  • Press “Receive a boarding pass”→”Search by credit card or JMB membership card” button and insert JMB membership card or JALCARD into the Ticketing and Check-in Machine.
  • Press “Receive a boarding pass”→”Search by IC or bar code” button and hold IC embedded JMB membership card, JALCARD, Osaifukeitai, or the customer’s copy of an e-ticket with two dimensional symbologies (or e-ticket copy sent to mobile phone by e-mail) over the Ticketing and Check-in Machine scanner.
When the JMB member whose mileage has been deducted is not traveling When the passenger is a JMB member
  • Press “Receive a boarding pass”→”Search by credit card or JMB membership card” button and insert JMB membership card or JALCARD*1 into the Ticketing and Check-in Machine.
  • Press “Receive a boarding pass”→”Search by IC or bar code” button and hold IC embedded JMB membership card, JALCARD, Osaifukeitai, or the customer’s copy of an e-ticket with two dimensional symbologies (or e-ticket copy sent to mobile phone by e-mail) over the Ticketing and Check-in Machine scanner.
When the passenger does not hold his/her JMB membership card
  • Press “Receive a boarding pass”→”Search by Reservation Confirmation number” button and enter the Reservation Confirmation number *2 into the Ticketing and Check-in Machine.
  • Press “Receive a boarding pass”→”Search by IC or bar code” button and hold IC embedded JMB membership card, or the customer’s copy of an e-ticket with two dimensional symbologies (or e-ticket copy sent to mobile phone by e-mail) over the Ticketing and Check-in Machine scanner.
Check-in at the Airport Ticketing Counter
 
When the JMB member whose mileage has been deducted is traveling On the day of departure, present the JMB membership card or JALCARD to the Ticketing Counter staff and mention that you will travel on Award Tickets.
When the JMB member whose mileage has been deducted is not traveling On the day of departure, present the JMB membership card or JALCARD*1 to the Ticketing Counter staff and mention that you will travel on Award Tickets. If you do not possess the JMB membership card or JALCARD, inform the Ticketing Counter staff “Reservation Confirmation number” *2

The JAL "Touch & Go " system

If you select your seat in advance, You can smoothly board Japan domestic flights without a ticket. On the day of departure, please bring to the airport, IC JAL JMB membership card, JALCARD, Osaifukeitai (integrated circuit-embedded mobile phone) or the customer’s copy of an e-ticket (or e-ticket copy sent to mobile phone by e- mail).

Mileage Reinstatement Service for Unused Awards

After application for the award has been completed*1 the mileage used for the award can only be reinstated for totally unused award by paying the applicable fee. All reinstated mileage must be returned to the JMB account from which it was redeemed.
