Deep in the heart of Japan’s Tohoku region sits an off-the-beaten-path ski resort: Aomori Springs Ski Resort in Ajigasawa, a small town in Aomori. This resort is nestled in the base of Mt. Iwaki, the highest peak of Aomori Prefecture. It is one of the best Ajigasawa hotels and a hidden gem that ski enthusiasts and outdoor adventures must see.
During the winter, it is blessed with abundant snowfall, making it home to family-friendly slopes, steep tree skiing (for those willing to give it a try), and a high-quality terrain park with the largest half-pipe in Japan. Expert skiers and fans of fine, powdery snow will enjoy the backcountry — the resort's standout feature.
Aomori Spring Ski Resort has diverse activities for different travelers to enjoy.
If you’re a beginner on the slopes, you can take advantage of skiing and snowboarding lessons to improve your skills. Aomori Spring Ski Resort offers English-language ski and snowboard lessons for beginner, intermediate, and expert skiers. At the same time, you’ll get to explore the wonders of Mt. Iwaki. (It caters to children and adults of all ages.)
If you’re ready to challenge yourself to the next level, go on a guided backcountry ski or snowboard tour. You’ll go beyond the resort boundaries with the help of the resort’s JMGA-qualified mountain guide. Don on snowshoes and see the famed “snow monsters” above Mt. Iwaki’s tree line, the deep, untouched powdery snow, and the breathtaking views over the Sea of Japan.
If you take your skiing seriously and want to learn more, you can enroll in the resort’s spring training camp, which offers competitive athlete training. You’ll get access to premium, special training facilities and high-performance training sessions to help you reach new ski goals.
From late December to April, Aomori Park remains open for travelers and skiers, as long as weather conditions permit it. From 10 in the morning to 2 in the afternoon, you can enjoy using the pipe and hone your ski tricks.
The Small-Medium Jump Line is the perfect place for beginners trying it for the first time. The park also has boxes, rails, and hips for those who want to learn to ride a transition or ride against an ocean backdrop.
The half-pipe requires a separate pass and a mandatory liability waiver. There is also a superpipe — one of the few 22-foot half-pipes in Japan. If you’re feeling extra adventurous, you can try the bag jump, an airbag progression session, as one of the different amenities of the park.
Our package plan includes lift tickets throughout your entire stay.
The half-pipe and Aomori Park are not part of the lift ticket prices. You may purchase an additional ticket for entry at the ticket counter.
You can also purchase the season pass, which gives you access to the park for the entire season. The resort also offers special rates for guests with disabilities.
If you aren’t bringing any equipment or don’t have any yet, you can rent from the resort. Ski sets include the rental of skis, boots, and poles, while snowboard sets include snowboard and boots. You may also rent outerwear — a complete set including a jacket and pants. Goggles, hats, and gloves are not rented out, so you must bring or buy your own.
