JAL cuts "Welcome to Japan" fare by 50 percent for World Cup
April 8, 2002 Japan Airlines is cutting its special discount "Welcome to Japan" fare for overseas visitors by 50 percent during the period of the World Cup soccer tournament. First introduced in 1997, the special JAL fare usually offers domestic flights at the fixed rate of ¥12,600 per sector, including tax. From May 25 until July 5, domestic flight sectors will be ¥6,300. The World Cup tournament starts on May 31 and ends on June 30. "Welcome to Japan" fares can be used to all cities in Japan served by JAL and its subsidiaries, JAL Express (JEX) and Japan Transocean Air (JTA). To take advantage of JAL's fare, travelers must reside overseas and purchase the "Welcome to Japan" ticket in conjunction with an international ticket to Japan prior to departure. The fare is available overseas only and is not on sale in Japan. Travelers can use JAL or any other international airline serving Japan for the international flights.
