New York, May 24, 2005: NTT DoCoMo USA, Inc., the American subsidiary of Japan's largest mobile communications company, NTT DoCoMo, Inc., and Japan Airlines International Co., Ltd. (JAL) announced today that the companies will jointly offer DoCoMo USA's proprietary Public Wireless LAN access service called "namikiteru" in the airline's lounges, which are located in Terminal One at JFK International Airport starting from June 1, 2005. DoCoMo USA will build namikiteru access points in both the JAL First Class and Sakura lounges and usage will be available to guests via a one-day access card provided by DoCoMo USA. Beginning in the early fall, namikiteru subscribers will be given new access software as part of the namikiteru service plan allowing them to access the Internet in JAL's lounges without the one-day card. As a courtesy to guests in its First Class and Sakura lounges in Terminal One, JAL will offer the namikiteru access card free-of-charge. Combined with the carrier's recent introduction of Connexion by Boeing inflight high-speed Wireless Internet Access service (in all cabins) between New York-Tokyo (JL005/006 only – available daily from late June 2005), guests at JAL's JFK lounges will have seamless Internet Access prior to and throughout their transpacific journey. Launched in November 2004 as the first service marketed by NTT DoCoMo USA, namikiteru is available in over 60 countries including the United States. In addition to subscription fees which include 50 hours of access for $34.99/month via a monthly contract, or a discounted rate of $29.99/month via an annual contract, a new usage-based billing plan of $0.25/minute with a $20 activation fee was introduced on April 25, 2005. In the near future, namikiteru users will be able to access software for BlackBerry® devices to receive and send e-mail in the Japanese language. The service has been soft-launched in April as read-only, and is expected to be in full service during this summer. Applications to subscribe to namikiteru services are available on the namikiteru Japanese-language web site: http://www.namikiteru.com. Detailed information regarding the hardware and software specifications required for the service and other terms and conditions for the services are also outlined on the web site.
