| Japan Airlines Offers Specialty Theme Tour on the Samurai Experience | ||||||

February 6, 2004 EL SEGUNDO, California—Japan Airlines announced that it will offer a special tour package in April that focuses on the history and life of the samurai, on its American Region Web site, www.japanair.com. The inclusive 8-day/6-night tour will guide travelers through the ancient world of the samurai on a guided journey that begins in Japan's ancient capital, Kyoto. Participants will visit Chion-in Temple, the filming site of "The Last Samurai," the famous Temple of the Golden Pavilion, Nijo Castle and Heian Shrine, among other notable attractions. They will visit the filming location of one of Japan's famous historical dramas, Toei Uzumasa Eigamura, and start off one of their days with a true Zen experience at Myoshin-ji Temple. Continuing on to Isawa Onsen by bullet train, or shinkansen, where the highlight of the trip—an reenactment of the famous Battle of Kawanakajima*—will take place, participants will have the opportunity to experience the life of the samurai through battle. They will join the ranks of the samurai in a realistic reenactment of the Battle of Kawanakajima, wearing authentic samurai armor, wielding weapons and fighting in an 800-person battle that will take them back in time to the 16th century. A local tour guide will accompany and assist participants throughout the journey. The tour package includes Economy class roundtrip air transportation between the U.S./Canada JAL gateway cities and Japan; 6-night hotel accommodation; several meals; most ground transportation; sightseeing tours; and tour guide accompaniment. This tour is from April 13th through April 18th, 2004, and sample prices from the following departure cities are as follows:

In 1561, when samurai warriors were fighting for the reins of power in Japan, one of the biggest inland battles ever to take place in Japan was fought between two great warlords, or daimyo, Takeda Shingen of Kai (today's Yamanashi prefecture) and Uesugi Kenshin of Echigo (present day Niigata). This historic battle, the Kawanakajima-gassen, took place in the plains of Kawanakajima, in the district of Shinsu, known today as Nagano prefecture and this location is now preserved as a historical site and parkland. | ||||||
