Currently, it takes a long time for all passengers arriving in Japan on international flights to complete entry procedures due to quarantine procedures and other border control measures in response to COVID-19 situation.

Entry restrictions and quarantine measures are changed often due to the evolving nature of the pandemic.
If your travel and/or quarantine documents are incomplete, you may be denied entry at your destination or boarding may be refused.
For flights operated by other airlines (including Codeshare flights), the operating carrier may have its own boarding requirements or restrictions. Please be sure to check with the operating carrier for the latest information before departure.

For guests entering Japan

With MySOS (Health and Location Monitoring App) you can complete some quarantine procedures and skip the submission of documents before you enter Japan (need to be registered 6 hours prior to your flight’s scheduled arrival time).

Amazon Locker

"Amazon Lockers" (receiving lockers) were set up at Haneda Airport Terminal 3 and Narita Airport Terminals 1 and 2 for international arrivals.
If you purchase items on the Amazon site in advance, you can pick them up at an Amazon locker before going to the isolation facility.

Travelers with connecting flights from Japan

Travelers connecting to an international flight

Travelers who are not entering Japan and transferring directly to a third country by transit, are not required to submit any documents and undergo PCR tests.
However, the following cases require entry into Japan. Please be informed that foreign nationals arriving from prohibited countries will not be allowed to enter Japan.

  • Transferring between Tokyo International Airport (Haneda Airport) and Narita International Airport
  • Travelers with a connecting flight out of Narita International Airport the following day

Travelers connecting to a domestic flight

You will be able to use public transportation within 24 hours after entering Japan only if you move to your home for waiting.
Currently, it takes a long time for all passengers arriving in Japan on international flights to complete entry procedures due to quarantine procedures and other border control measures in response to COVID-19 situation. Even if your itinerary meets the minimum connecting time required by the airline, there is a possibility that you will not be able to make your connection. Please make sure to consider an itinerary that allows enough time for connections.

If you are able to complete entry procedures early enough to catch an earlier flight, we may be able to make the change. Please consult with a Japan Airlines staff after completing entry procedures.

Check-in and ticket handling in accordance with entry restrictions

Please note that due to travel restrictions, we may suspend the use of some Web Check-in functions and Self Check-in kiosks on certain routes.

Passengers who are faced with immigration restrictions at the departure or arrival airports will be able to change or refund JAL international tickets without charge, regardless of fare rules.
