Thank you for your continued patronage of the JAL Group.
Japan Airlines was recently notified by SITA* of a data security incident that led to the unintended disclosure of some data belonging to members of the JAL Mileage Bank (JMB) program. We have notified customers whose data was affected by email and by a notice posted on the JMB website.
Japan Airlines provides alphabetized member names, membership numbers and oneworld tier status (Emerald, Sapphire, Ruby) to SITA via partner airlines for use in providing services when members travel with those partner airlines. In this instance, data was leaked due to unauthorized access to systems owned by SITA.
This security incident has had no effect on Japan Airlines’ systems nor data. SITA has already taken action to close outside access to the affected system, and we have confirmed that no subsequent data leakage has occurred. Information that could lead to misuse by third parties such as names in Japanese characters, dates of birth, addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, passwords and credit card information were not included in the leakage.
