Special handling for JAL international tickets following the situation of pneumonia caused by the new coronavirus. (Last Updated Apr 7, 2020)

Thank you for flying with Japan Airlines. 

In response to basic policy announced by Novel Coronavirus Response Headquarters of government of Japan, please follow additional special handling on JAL international tickets. For details please refer to conditions below for ‘Applicable Tickets’, ‘Tickets Refunds or Changes'.

Applicable tickets

Tickets issued by Japan Airlines starting with '131' with following conditions:

All flights to / from Japan

  1. Departure date
    From February 28, 2020 (Friday) to May 31, 2020 (Sunday)
  2. Date of Purchase
    - Boarding between February 28, 2020 (Friday) and March 19, 2020 (Thursday).
    *Tickets issued on/before February 28, 2020 (Friday) inclusive of above eligible flights for reservation change or refund after February 29, 2020 (Saturday).
    - Boarding between March 20, 2020 (Friday) and April 5, 2020 (Sunday).
    *Tickets issued on/before March 6, 2020 (Friday) inclusive of above eligible flights for reservation change or refund after March 6, 2020 (Friday).
    - Boarding between April 6, 2020 (Monday) and April 30, 2020 (Thursday).
    *Reservation change or refund after March 18, 2020 (Wednesday).
    - Boarding between May 1, 2020 (Friday) and May 31, 2020 (Sunday).
    *Reservation change or refund after April, 7, 2020 (Tuesday).

In response to the immigration restriction of each country, change/refund of JAL international tickets will be handled regardless of date of purchase.

  • JAL Japan Explorer Pass, Japan domestic air ticket for Japan inbound travelers, is also applicable.

Ticket refund/change

1.Regardless of ticket rules and conditions, we accept refund without any fee.

*  Ticketing Service Fee paid at the time of ticket purchase is not refundable.

If you have purchased your tickets through JAL and meets eligible tickets' conditions above, refund for the unused flight(s) through JAL websiteis available until 23:59 p.m. of the day before of flight departure.

If we accept reservation refund without any fee from JAL website, the information about the fee exemption (Below in the red frame) will be displayed on the "Cancellation summary" page.

Even after the boarding date, we will accept your refund specially through call center during the period below, if applicable for conditions above. 

[Before departure] Within 1 year and 30 days from the date of issue

[After commencement of travel] Within 1 year and 30 days from the date of travel commencement

*  If you are unable to proceed through JAL Website or if you encounter additional charge, please kindly contact JAL office below.

   If you would like to refund the ticket after your planned flight departure date or the ticket that included upgrade award, please kindly apply for refund via the refund form below.

2.Reservation changes

Passengers with eligible tickets may change departure date only once to another date on/before June 30, 2020 (Tuesday).

* This service is not available on the JAL website, please contact JAL office below.

  • For JAL Japan Explorer Pass, Japan domestic air ticket for Japan inbound travelers, please call our call center for refund or reservation change as services not available through JAL Website.
