Travel Alert - Information regarding COVID-19

Thank you for flying with Japan Airlines.

JAL group has adopted a range of necessary precautions against the outbreak of the Coronavirus in order to maintain a safe, secured environment for our customers, flight / cabin crews, and other employees.

As such to the followings for more information related to the Coronavirus situation.

About Air Circulation in Airplanes

Through the engine of an aircraft, the inside of a cabin receives ventilation through outside air every two to three minutes. In addition, each aircraft on JAL's fleet is installed with a HEPA system* to maintain the cabin`s air purity levels.

  • High - Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) Filter - Designed to capture at least 99.97 percent of fine airborne particles larger than at least 0.3 micrometer.

Airport Staff to Wear Face Masks

As a precautionary measure, airport staff will wear face masks during operating hours.

Cabin Crew to Wear Face Masks and Gloves

As a precautionary measure, cabin crew will wear face masks on international and domestic flights.

They will also wear gloves when serving meals and beverages.

Inflight Announcement

On January 24, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare provided a directive for airlines to inform passengers on applicable flights to report any symptoms, such as coughing and/or fever, to the quarantine officer stationed at the airport.

Applicable Routes:

Japan - Beijing, Dalian, Tianjin, Shanghai (Hongqiao/Pudong), Guangzhou, Taipei (Songshan / Taoyuan), Kaohsiung, Helsinki, London, Sydney, Melbourne

Disinfection of Aircraft Cabin

Aircraft on all our network (both international and Japan domestic) are disinfected during the overnight hours in Japan. Applicable areas include seat tables, arm rests, IFE monitors/controllers, lavatories (including door knob, sinks) and/or any areas where customers may touch during a flight. Due to aircraft rotation requirements, this action may not be performed after each flight.

Antibacterial Hand Wipes

In order to maintain a safe and secure environment for our customers, antibacterial cleansing wipes will be available in all classes of travel on domestic and international flights. (Scheduled after June 13, 2020)

Inflight Service about Meal and Drink

Domestic Flights

All classes
  • We will temporarily stop the Inflight Snack Sales Service (Beer, Ice Cream) for Okinawa NAHA flights from June 1, 2020.
  • We will temporarily stop handling cash for inflight sales from July 1, 2020.
    Please pay with a credit cards, JAL coupons, JAL Travel Coupons, and JAL Gift Certificates.
First Class

In order to maintain a safe and secure environment, the following measures will be taken.

  • We will temporarily provide packaged wet paper towels.
  • We will temporarily serve plastic cups and paper cups for drinks.
  • We will temporarily serve inflight meals with lids or in a package.
  • We will temporarily stop serving miso soup for OSAKA ITAMI flights.
  • With temporary operational downtime of the catering company, we will change the menu cycle of inflight meals from May 1, 2020.
    Normally, the menus change every 10 days changed at the first ten days.
    However due to the situation, the same menu will be served for a month.

Class J and Economy Class
  • We will temporarily stop the blanket and pillow service.
  • We will temporarily serve cartoned tea for the drink service. Apple juice are prepared for children.
    We will additionally serve Apple juice and Coca-Cola on request from July 1, 2020.

International Flights

All classes
  • We will temporarily provide packaged wet paper towels.
  • We will temporarily stop handling cash for inflight sales from July 1, 2020.
    Please pay with a credit cards, JAL coupons, JAL Travel Coupons, and JAL Gift Certificates.
First Class
  • We will temporarily stop the magazine service from March 28, 2020.
  • We will stop serving some menus from our a la carte.
  • Due to the fact that the number of passengers are limited, we will not change the style of service.
Business Class
  • We will temporarily stop the magazine service from March 28, 2020.
  • We will temporarily serve inflight meal with a lid or in a package.
  • We will change our course style to tray style.
  • We will stop serving some menus from our a la carte.
Economy Class
  • We will temporarily serve inflight meal with a lid or in a package.
Inflight meal service for flights to/from Dalian
  • Based on notification by the Dalian government, we will stop serving inflight meals for flights departing to Dalian (JL829).
  • Based on notification by the Civil Aviation Administration of China, we will serve boxed meals for flights departing to Japan (JL820).
Inflight meal service for flights from Europe

With temporary operational downtime of the catering company in Europe, we will change the menu of Business Class meals from July 1, 2020.

Due to this, we will stop the Inflight Meal Reservation Service for Business Class meals and Special Inflight meals.

  • From Frankfurt to Japan(JL408)*From July 1, 2020

Hand Sanitizers Provided at Various Points throughout the Airport

In order to provide peace of mind,the JAL Group will place hand sanitizers  at the check-in counter, self check-in machines, security gate, boarding gate and baggage claim areas. Please feel free to utilize the sanitizers where available.

Lounge Service and Hygiene Enhancement

In order to maintain a safe and secure environment, the following measures will be taken.

  • The dining area in the lounges are disinfected.
  • Hand sanitizers will be available at reception, restrooms, tables and juice dispensers.
  • Partitions will be placed between seats to assure ample space between each passenger.

Food and drink services provided at the lounge will be changed as below.

( International Lounge in Japan )  individual meal /packaging service or service provided by staff in order to ensure that customers can receive the service with peace of mind.

 

( Domestic Lounge )  we will provide packaging meal service.

 

( International Lounge in Overseas)  individual meal /packaging service or service provided by staff in order to ensure that customers can receive the service with peace of mind.

Check-in Counter Opening Hours

In response to the spread of the Coronavirus infection, that the business hours of  Check-in Counter will be changed.
Please refer below.

Temporary Closure of London Heathrow Airport Terminal 3

In reaction to the Coronavirus epidemic, London Heathrow Airport Terminal 3 will be closed.

Japan Airlines moved from Terminal 3 to Terminal 2 Effective April 18, 2020.

Also, if may change depending on the situation and announced on this page accordingly.

Please confirm the location of Japan Airlines check-in counters on the flights information board situated at Terminal 2.

Also, if you need any information concerning the facilities of the airport, please access to the London Heathrow Airport website.

Temporary Closure of Frankfurt Airport Terminal 2

Frankfurt Airport Terminal 2 was closed in April due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Japan Airlines will move our flight operation to Terminal 1.
The JAL check-in counter is located at Terminal 1, Hall B, until further notice.
