The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (hereafter “Quarantine”) will introduce a Notification System for the Importation of Animals in order to prevent the outbreak of human's infectious diseases derived from imported animals, effective from September 1, 2005.
On or after that date, any passenger who are seeking to bring their pets below is required to submit a written declaration giving the specified information on the animals to be imported, such as their species name and quantity, to the Quarantine (the quarantine station concerned), accompanied by a health certificate issued by the government authorities of the exporting country certifying that the animals are free from the infectious diseases specified for each species.
According to the Quarantine, these pets cannot be imported into Japan practically due it is quite difficult to obtain the certification issued by the government authories of the exporting country.
In case the notification does not comply with the regulations, the quarantine station concerned will suggest the passenger to send them back to origin or take their life.
