Hokkaido Goryokaku Park

Best time to see: Early May to mid-May

A star-shaped fortress ablaze in pink

Goryokaku Park, Hakodate's most famous cherry blossom viewing site. Approximately 1,600 cherry blossom trees, mainly Yoshino cherry trees, bloom magnificently all around the star-shaped fortress. A "Goryokaku O-hanami Plan" that includes a Mongolian BBQ (a must for cherry blossom viewing in Hokkaido) with all ingredients and materials provided, is also available, allowing you to enjoy the authentic taste of Mongolian BBQ on spread out picnic sheets while enjoying the sight of countless cherry blossoms. For a general view of the park, go up to the observation desk on Goryokaku Tower. Goryokaku all covered in pink as far as the eye can see can only be described as a masterpiece.
