Contingency Measures for Avian Influenza

To ensure that passengers have a comfortable and enjoyable flight, the JAL Group* has prepared the following notice about contingency measures in hand regarding avian influenza. We hope that the high standards of hygiene in our passenger cabin and the precautions we have taken will reassure our passengers when they fly with us.

1) Passenger Cabin Hygiene

JAL maintains the highest levels of hygiene within the passenger cabin. Our aircraft air circulation systems are fitted with high specification filters, which remove airborne particles and purify the air in the passenger cabin. Our trained cabin crew maintain the highest standards of hygiene at all times throughout the flight. We carry protective items such as masks, disinfectant, gloves and other hygiene supporting materials on our aircraft as standard items.

2) Staff Vaccination Recommendation

There has been no human-to-human transmission of the avian influenza virus. We are, however, recommending that ground staff, flight crew and cabin attendants on duty in areas where there have been confirmed cases of human infection of avian flu be vaccinated against the common flu, as a simple precaution and in consideration of our passengers.

To monitor the situation, JAL has established an Avian Flu Command Center. The center will be responsible for gathering detailed information on avian influenza, and for providing a rapid response to deal with any situation that may arise.
