Redesigned JAL Mileage Bank Services. JAL Mileage Bank services have been redesigned in our ongoing commitment to offer an accessible and preferred program. For international award travel, revisions will be made to the mileage required for popular First Class and Business Class seats with effect from autumn 2015. At the same time, new mileage requirements will apply for JAL International Award Tickets Discount Mileage, longer deadlines will be implemented for award ticket bookings, and one-way award tickets will be introduced, making international award travel more available to our members. For domestic award travel, we have significantly lowered the mileage required for one-way award tickets and made other changes to ensure that award travel is accessible and convenient. JAL Mileage Bank will continue to welcome feedback as we strive to provide services that are valued by our customers.

International flights

Revisions to the mileage required for JAL international First Class and Business Class award tickets November 1, 2015 (request date)

Effective for reservations made from November 1, 2015, revisions will be made to the mileage required for JAL International First Class and Business Class award tickets.

At the same time, Business Class and First Class award tickets will be offered at the old mileage requirements for outbound and return flights that depart on certain days of the week only. These award tickets will be available only on the JAL website.

JAL International Award Tickets Discount Mileage to be continued in FY2015

JAL International Award Tickets Discount Mileage will continue to be available in FY2015 for Economy Class and Premium Economy Class. With discount mileage, award tickets for North America routes during Period B can be redeemed for as few as 35,000 miles. Similarly, award tickets for Europe routes during Period B can be redeemed for as few as 38,000 miles.
JALCARD holders can save an additional 1,000 miles round trip.

Longer deadlines for booking international award tickets April 1, 2015 (request date)

Starting from April 1, 2015, longer deadlines will be introduced as follows for reservations made by phone.

  • Applicable tickets: JAL International Award Tickets, Partner Airlines Award Tickets, and oneworld Award Tickets
  • Deadline for members in the Japan region: 12:00 noon (Japan time), one day prior to the date of flight departure
  • Deadline for members in regions other than Japan: 12:00 noon (*), two days prior to the date of flight departure (counting from one day before the departure date)
  • * If the above deadlines fall outside the operating hours of the Call Center or JAL Office, the deadline will be the previous business day.

JAL International Award Tickets can be changed to the next higher class of service April 1, 2015 (request date)

Starting from April 1, 2015, JAL International Award Tickets can be changed to the next higher class of service for the same flight sectors without incurring a mileage reinstatement fee. To be eligible, these requests must be made by phone.

One-way JAL International Award Tickets available at half the round-trip mileage requirement April 1, 2015 (request date)

From April 1, 2015, JAL International Award Tickets for one-way travel will be available at half the mileage required for a round-trip award ticket, provided that reservations are made by phone.

Changing JAL international award tickets to a higher class of service at the airport Already introduced November 26, 2014 (flight date) -

With this service, customers with a JAL international award ticket can apply for a change to a higher class of service upon check-in at the airport on the day of departure.
This service can be used when a seat is available in the next higher class of service than that of the award ticket.

More classes eligible for the Same Day Upgrade Application at the Airport for JAL International Flights service. November 26, 2014 (flight date)

From December 1, 2014, this service will allow customers to upgrade to Premium Economy upon check-in at the airport on the day of departure.
This service can be used when a seat is available in the next higher class of service than that of the purchased ticket.

With this service, JMB miles can be used to pay for excess baggage charges on JAL international flights.

Introduction of a Ticketing Service Fee April 1, 2015 (request date)

Effective April 1, 2015, a Ticketing Service Fee will be introduced for reservation changes made by phone.

Revisions to the rules for JAL International Upgrade Awards April 1, 2015 (request date)

Effective for requests made from April 1, 2015, changes to upgrade award reservations will not be permitted after the reservation is made and mileage is deducted.
At the same time, the reinstatement fee for canceling and refunding an unused upgrade award will be abolished.

Extended More FLY ON Points Promotion

The More FLY ON Points Promotion will be continued in 2015, awarding 400 bonus FLY ON Points per flight boarded with eligible fares.
