Carriage of Sensitive Cargo FAQ

Q1: What is sensitive equipment?
A1: Fragile cargo that is vulnerable to jolting, shocks or tilting, that can be easily damaged, and that requires special handling (cargo marked as "Shock Watch" or "Tilt Watch").

Q2: How, specifically, should this cargo be handled?
A2: Because it is fragile, handlers need to avoid jolting or tilting this cargo. Careful attention must be paid to how this cargo is handled at the airport. If necessary, the salesperson may provide written instructions to the airport. The cargo should then be handled in accordance with those instructions. For example, the following handling options are available:
(Ex.) 1. Cargo condition can be checked.
2. The operations manager can observe the transfer of the cargo from the time it is received to the time it is shipped out.
3. Cargo that needs to be prevented from toppling over can be loaded together with other items.

Q3: Some sensitive equipment must even be kept at a certain temperature and humidity. Should this cargo be handled the same way?
A3: JAL has systems in place for products referred to as ultra-sensitive equipment. This cargo is approved by JAL and is handled with even greater care than regular sensitive equipment. We absolutely guarantee our shipment service quality. As we have emergency response measures to deal with any problem that may arise, we can immediately notify the parties to the shipment and perform extraordinary handling.

In FY2002, JAL developed products focused on special handling services, expanding its existing line of J-Products for time-sensitive cargo. One of these new product categories is "J Care," which includes shipments of delicate and sensitive instruments and equipment. Click here to see a description of these services.

Those who would like to obtain more information about JAL's J Care services should contact the nearest JAL Cargo Reservations Office.
