USDA New regulations for wooden pallets and other solid wood packing materials

At the IATA Cargo Tariff Coordinating Conferences held in Geneva 04 - 08 May, 1998
and the following changes on cargo rates, charges and rules were adopted at Composite
and each area Conferences.

The intended effective date of the agreements is 01AUG and 01 OCT. 1998 unless
otherwise specified, subject to approval by the governments concerned. The duration of
the agreements is two years until 30 SEP. 2000.

SPECIAL CARGO CURRENCY CONVERSION RESOLUTION
-EURO-

for implementation 1 January 1999
It is RESOLVED that,
1) a) cargo rates, add-on amounts and related charges from the countries listed in
the Attachment will be converted to euros for application from 1 January
1999

b) the manner of revising shall be to apply the rates of exchange in the
Attachment to the local currency specified rates, add-on amounts and related
charges and rounding the resultant euro level as follows:

c) i) local currency amounts expressed as an amount per kg.
i) the conversion to the euro is to the nearer euro 0.01 based on the third
i) decimal place ignoring any further decimal places (half adjust)
ii)for other local currency amounts
ii)the conversion to the euro is to the nearer euro 1based on the first decimal
ii)place ignoring any further decimal places (half adjust)

2) a) the countries for which this change will apply are shown in Attachment(EMU
countries).The fixed rate of exchange between the currency of such countries to
incorporate the details into the Attachment and to advise carriers accordingly

b) in the event additional countries join the EMU countries, the Secretariat is
authorized to update the list in the Attachment and advise carriers of such
countries and the date of conversion of the data base.

Effective 1 January 1999, Attachment 'A' to Resolution 033d shall be amended by
adding an additional entry for EMU countries to read as follows:

4) If commencement of transportation is in an EMU country but payment is outside
such country, the applicable charge from the country of commencement of
transportation will be assessed in euros and the resultant euro amount will be
converted directly to the currency of payment.

5) Should a carrier find that the implementation date should be delayed such carrier
will request the Secretariat to circulate an industry Mail Vote for the revised
implementation date. Such implementation date must however allow for a period
of three months between adoption of such Mail Vote and the proposed
implementation date. In proposing the new implementation date consideration
should also be given to the need to publish the new rates in the TACT.

Composite Resolutions
1   006aa- special Administrative Resolution

  1) in the event of notification of Government action to change rates, add-on
amounts and/or related charges, the Secretariat may update the IATA
conference agreed data base to reflect such changes. A copy of Government
document to this effect must support the notification

  2) upon receipt of such notification, the IATA data base will be amended
accordingly on an industry basis and the information will be circulated to all
TC Members
