The construction on the east and west roof wings of the JAL Cargo Building at Narita Airport was completed on Friday, October 27. This expanded the cargo import facilities by 5,000 m², and increased the cargo capacity by 15%. Details on the construction expansion are given below. JALCARGO is continuing to strive for faster cargo shipment for customers even during peak periods.
1. Overview of Construction
| (1) The east wing redevelopment entails a roof extension over the yard area through removal of the equipment facility, as well as turning the maintenance facility into a cargo facility on the east side of the JAL Cargo Building (4,800 m²). |

(2) The new roof for the west wing consists of an extension of the roof on the west exit of the JAL Cargo Building (1,500 m²). With the completion of construction, the cargo capacity was increased by 300 tons to 2,300 tons.
Further details on (1) and (2) are given below. |

2. East Wing Redevelopment Construction
The total development area of the east wing construction is 4,800 m². In addition to the expanded floor space, this redevelopment created the following benefits. As the east exit of this facility had become the main artery for general outbound cargo, this construction enlarged the exit with four new truck docks, giving a total of 22 docks on the east side. As a result, a system has been created where the majority of general cargo can be shipped out the east exits. In addition, since a truck dock for cargo transferred to Baraki has been established facing the onsite No. 3 Road, the transport trucks to Baraki no longer need to enter the cargo area, which will help alleviate the traffic congestion here.
3. West Wing Roof
The new area for the west wing roof is 1,500 m². By extending the roof to the truck docks, we are able to improve our service by further preventing moisture damage to the cargo. In addition, it is now possible for cargo being shipped out to stand by in an area closer to the truck docks, and to move the previous outbound cargo stand-by area to the cargo warehouse, thereby improving warehouse efficiency. |
