Terminal 5

At the 1st floor immigration control area, there is immigration control and toilets (wheelchair accessible), at the baggage claim area, there are toilets (wheelchair accessible), and once you have passed through customs, there are toilets (wheelchair accessible), an airport information counters, currency exchange offices, elevators, escalators for the inter-terminal ATS (train) stop, the JAL arrivals counter, the baggage drop-off counter, domestic baggage acceptance, the arrivals lobby, and exits to outside, where you can take a train.

Japan is an eligible country under the United States Visa Waiver Program (VWP).
Japanese passport holders are permitted to enter the country without a visa provided that the duration of stay is up to 90 days, and the purpose of travel is tourism or business. (However, an ESTA application must be made beforehand.)

Terminal 3

On the 2nd floor, there are elevators, check-in counters, A counters, and toilets (wheelchair accessible), and Once you pass through security, there is the Admirals Club Lounge, Flagship Lounge, and toilets (wheelchair accessible).

Check-in opens 3 hours prior to departure.

Security check

Your carry-on baggage will be examined, and there will be a check for liquids in your possession.

Passengers departing Chicago Airport on flight JL009 should undergo a Security check in Terminal 3. Passengers arriving at Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 and connecting to flight numbers JL009 or JL7009 on the same day can reach Terminal 3 by walking along the Concourse (near the gates after the security inspection). Please follow signs for Terminal 3. (However, it is necessary for checked baggage to have been checked through to Japan or beyond.)

Immigration

You do not have to go through Immigration when departing the United States.
Please hand in the immigration card* you completed upon arrival to airline staff.
If you do not hand in the card, you may face delays in the future when trying to enter the United States.

  • *If you have ESTA and you entered the US on the Visa Waiver Program, you do not need to submit an immigration card.

Customs

There is no customs inspection when departing from the United States.

Other Information

Passengers connecting from American Airlines (including JAL codeshare flights operated by American Airlines) who already have a JL009 boarding pass, should proceed directly to the departure gate. You need to present your passport information to the Immigration Bureau in advance of your flight, so please approach the counter or a boarding gate official.
The Flagship Lounge and Admirals Club Lounge are also available to passengers who have lounge access.

Note

Flight JL7009 (a JAL codeshare flight operated by AA) will be operated as American Airlines flight AA153.
Passengers taking this flight will depart from Terminal 3, the same as flight JL009.
