Handling of portable electronic devices with built-in lithium or lithium ion batteries in checked baggage

Thank you for flying with Japan Airlines.

In correspondence with instruction of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan, portable electronic devices with built-in lithium or lithium ion batteries carried as checked baggage must be completely switched off (not in sleep mode).
Appropriate measures, such as packing in rigid suitcase and/or cushioning material clothing, must be taken to prevent the items from unintentional activation or damage.

Effective date

July 1, 2017

All JAL Group flights (domestic and international)
* Codeshare flights operated other airlines follow operating carriers’ rules

Applicable device

Portable electronic devices with built-in lithium or lithium ion batteries
For example, mobile phones, portable DVD players, radios equipment, transceiver, notebook PCs, digital cameras, mobile device, handy copy/printer, handy device, e-book player, portable game player etc.

* Portable batteries, spare batteries are permitted as carry-on baggage only.
