The MD-11 was developed as the high-technology successor to the DC-10. The distinguishing feature of the three-engine MD-11 is its third engine mounted at the base of the fin, with additional engines mounted on each wing. The MD-11 has a maximum range exceeding 10,000 km. The MD-11 features both upward and downward winglets on each wingtip.
